Hi Sarah: Other people will have helpful information about how to help your friend. I am responding because of the above sentence. I'd like to recommend that your friend get a journal and write down as much as he can about his mother's symptoms and everything she is willing to share about what she experiences. I've been recently diagnosed with a congential problem and my parents refuse to help me get a clearer picture. My grandparents are all deceased and my other family members are just as dysfunctional as my parents. Obviously, I can't go back in time, but I wish I could remember more details. It's hard enough to not know what's happening not to mention not being able to track the progression. All the best to you both, mjd
