An-Marie, inspecting the stool should varify weter o nt there are any present. if there are any, there should be some in the stool.

if a child has pinworms, they may emerge at night from the anis and they can be detected by taking a piece of scotch tape and bloting the area and you can see the little boogers. don't know about tape worms but would imagie that some of it would slough off and apparent in the stool when tested.

if yu suspect them, check your stool for anomallies.. anything that looks suspicious.

Ok...I'm 100% sure that this is disgusting, but still leaves my question of how do we know we have parasites in us? Do we get ill or very weak in some ways or have big pot bellies?

An-Marie.. when i was very small, about 5 years old, i had a bad case of pinworms. it is a disgusting problem which was taken care of immediately upon discovery. it was not painful, but it was frightening to me, the very idea that i had been invaded, but it is not a terminal problem under most circumstances. if you are really concerned, get checked so that your mind will be relieved. it can be a nightmare just thinking of being invaded. if it is positive, don't let it get to you. it can be fixed. you might try what Suzi or Doc would do if it were them. it is not an uncommon dilemma.
