Nice idea but they keep me overnite (partially because of this)... I thought about taking some ginger root with me and seeing if they would nuke some water (since they always have a microwave but never a stove)... and then add the ginger and try taking some tea.... I need to find out about that or I'll be having DH sneaking some cold tea in...

I know... but you're not supposed to eat or drink 12 hours prior... and afterwards... i don't want anything... i'm that sick from it... that is why I thought maybe somehow I could ward it off....

Maybe when you get home you could do an enema with ginger and some other goodies to get you feeling better? Do you think you could tolerate that if you won't be able to keep things down... I know this is a pretty rough way to get the ginger but.... maybe your only choice.

Appreciate the thoughts and prayers ... surgery is supposed to be at 9:20 a.m..

Here is what is going on (medically)...with the inner ear... this is what I had to have done 4 years ago..

Figure 2. Stapes fixation in otosclerosis. A bony ankylosis (knee) knits the bone of the middle ear to the stapes, preventing normal transmission of sound from the eardrum into the inner ear.

Otosclerosis is usually inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern with variable penetrance. This means that you have a 50-50% chance of getting the gene for otosclerosis if one parent has it, but that not everyone with the gene develop symptoms. Hearing loss usually begins between the ages of 11-30. The hearing loss can be of two types. When otosclerosis involves the small bones of the middle ear, a conductive type loss is found. This type of hearing loss can be corrected both by a hearing aid as well as a surgical procedure called stapedectomy.

When otosclerosis significantly involves the bone which surrounds the inner ear, called the "otic capsule", a sensory type hearing loss occurs. This type of hearing loss is not correctable by stapedectomy. While hearing aids are usually worth trying, they also may be ineffective. When otosclerosis involves both the small bones and the cochlea, a "mixed" type hearing loss occurs.

Pam,

the biggest reason I believe for infection is keeping water out of the ear... I AM SO GOOD AT THIS... Doc was so impressed when I went back that he knew no water had gotten in as I had so much dried blood in there he thought he would never get it all out... and neither did I as it hurt like heck, him removing it...

Yeah, I plan to stock up my system before and after .

My mommy took a big loss in her hearing a few years back. Prior to her cleansing or herbing she was exposed to a young man whom she offered to take to the hospital upon him getting very sick at there work. Turned out he had menengacocol (spelling waayyy OFF!) once he was diagnosed they had her take this one pill, can't remember the name, Cypro??? Anyway, she blames her hearing loss on that, it's primarily her left ear, she has hearing aides, hates them, can't adjust or make them work right. It's a bummer and has been a huge challenge for me to have pure compassion for her situation, but.. god dang it ! I was also wondering if this is a normal way for your brain and stapes to get recalibrated. One of the treatments for severe vertigo is to purposely position a patient where the dizzyness is the worst so they are forced to get used to it. Might help to power up your consumption of cayenne before the big day. I will see if I can find anything else that might help.

Janet,

I will be on something anyway from the anethesia...and I think they gave me something the last time but it didn't work.. that is why I need to find something that won't react with the stuff they give me... in the IV. And yes, I'll be doing a cleanse afterwards... probably a week or so after the fact...

SuziJanet Seidlitz <dragonhealing wrote:

Suzi that sucks. But you have to do what you feel you should. If it was me (please don't beat me for this) I would go ahead and take the anti-emetic the hospital offers for the day it lasts. At least you know how to de-tox from the anesthesia and anti-emetic afterwards eh? Let us know how it goes hon.

Herbal Remedies - My "situation".....

Well for the past couple months I've been denying to myself a problem that I knew was there... I'll start back about 4 years or so ago (before herbal remedies)... I was losing the hearing in my left ear... the middle ear, stapes, the bone that amplifies the sound thru vibration, so to speak... It quit vibrating... wore out.. it had to be replaced... It was and I hear good out of it now.. Well, at that time, the dr told me it may or may not ever happen to the other ear......... yep, it happened.. Shortly after getting back from vacation, I noticed it... thought it was fluid behind the eardrum... (Wishful thinking, while in the corner back of my mind I knew)... I've been trying remedies but to no avail... meanwhile everyone has been "yelling at me" (lol) to get my attention.. Well, today, I went for a hearing test to confirm what I already knew.... The nice part was that I got to see the dr who did the original surgery... He is genuinely a good soul... wonderful man.... and one of the best in the country ... Well, after the test, he walked thru the door and said... "IT's time...... but then you already knew that, didn't you?" And yes I did... Well I have to have the bone replaced....just like the last time. I'm sort of bumming.. But hey, maybe I'll get a bionic replacement.... the good news was the left ear has not decreased at all in hearing...working good as ever.. It is frustrating to either not hear or when you do, not know where exactly the sound is coming from (which direction)... and while I welcome the outcome.... I dread the "coming out of the surgery"... You see, they are working very close to the equilibrium of your body... For those of you who ever got so drunk... you saw the room spinning, vomited, etc... This is worse than any "cheap drunk" you can imagine. You don't want to be moved, touched, etc. (From sweet, loveable charming to BITCH in a fraction of a second) and it lasts most of a day into the evening. If there was another way, I think after the last 2 months I would have found it... but I guess the little bone just wore itself out.... (and yes, I've tried DMSO also) Anyway,

I've resided myself to doing this again... Have to be able to hear out of the right ear... it's driving me and everyone around me crazy.

So, my question is (after all that)... ginger works on nausea...I know that... but how long does it work... I'm thinking if I take it the nite before (it it won't affect the anathesia...will it be working by noon the next day... anyone know???

I am very sorry to hear of your problem and that you need to go into hospital.

With your

also, damnit!! I just got DH to cancel our hospital insurance last week!

I said I am never going there! heheh now LOL you have this!

I am very interested, as many others on the list are I guess, as to what Doc's

recommendations for this condition would be and what he would say regarding

having surgery.

Are there any other surgeries 'we' may need to have? :((

I mean apart from the bullet ones? hehe

Hi Pee Tee, Cipro is that dangerous antibiotic stuff that they were making people take during the anthrax scare back in 2001. It sounded scarey back then, and a google search quickly returns lots of icky stuff about it. I know that your mom losing her hearing is horrible, but I'm glad that she's had no other ill effects from it.
