Depending on whether the infection is viral or bacterials (can be either with tonsillitis) my choice for a remedy might alter somewhat- but you can experiment to see what works best ;-) Unless she is so inflamed it interferes with breathing I would treat naturally. Do you know (was it cultured?) if there was strep throat too? Any ear infection or sinusitis? The tonsils are part of the lymphatic system and are rarely removed these days unless they are enlarged so much that the child has trouble breathing. First-- DIET...very important- you need to support the immune system. Eliminate sugars and processed foods. Avoid dairy. Really focus on fluids- teas, homemade broths, and water are the best. Vitamin C is anti inflammatory. Echinacea and Goldenseal or if you have Doc's super Echinacea it is incredibly good and you can stick it way back in the throat. Muy son let me do this when he was recovering from croup at 4 yrs old. A tea with Licorice rt will be soothing and taste sweet. If you can get a Propolis spray use it in the throat to destroy bacteria and viruses. An herbal tea with Marsmallow rt, Licorice rt, Echinacea, Slippery Elm bark, and a little Cinnamon and Ginger Sage tea is great as a gargle- add raw honey and that will help too ;-) Cayenne is good- it;'s in the Total Tonic. I'd be using a lot of Total Tonic!! Total Tonic in apple juice would be GREAT! Lot's of fresh garlic is good. You can also make a gargle. 4 drops essential oil to 50ml distilled water Lavender, Lemon and Tea Tree would be good- 2 drops Lavender, 1 drop lemon, 1 drop tea tree- add some honey or stevia to sweeten. I don't know if she would gargle with this or not. Here is another gargle remedy I would use: 3 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar 1 tablespoon honey 2 drops Ginger (essential oil- or of you don't have it just squeeze the juice from raw Ginger and add a teaspoon) 5 drops Lemon (essential oil- or squeeze half a lemon) you can also make some infused honey. I would also make cold compresses with essential oils to sooth the throat and reduce inflammation and apply to the outside of the throat. Guest guest
Hi Elizabeth, Thank you so much for all the advice. Let me give you a few more details. He has had NO fever and NO throat pain, he can swallow ok, however, he cannot breath through his nose and you can really hear him when he breaths during the day through his mouth. The tonsils are very swollen, not quite touching each other, but very close to each other. He sounds VERY congested, but he has no discharge from his nose at this time, it is totally clear, it sounds like it is from behind the nose. He has been waking up in the mornings coughing until he gets rid of the phlem and then he is fine the rest of the day. If it was not because he SUNDS very congested, I would have not noticed the tonsils, since that is basically the only symptom at this time other than not being able to breath through his nose. What I want to know is what is the best thing to get the tonsils to come back to their normal size and how long does that usually take? Thanks again, marcela herbal remedies , elizabeth@w... wrote: > > On Feb 22, 2004, at 9:33 AM, marce0313 wrote: > > > What is the best thing to do for very swollend tonsils and > > adrenoids.
