YES!!!! What if we trusted them and taught them that they CAN listen to

their bodies...that they are able to make good choices for their bodies

and we present them with good options for them to choose from. They

don't need to be trained to eat the great American meal ;-) They'll

learn to eat meals anyway. I also like them to sit at a table their

size when they like and be able to get up when done at 2 yrs old. They

have little bellies and need frequent feeding. Most people give

unhealthy snacks and then expect them to eat a big " healthy/ balanced "

meal. Who care what food groups show up in one meal???? That's nuts.

It's FINE and good too to eat a meal of FRUIT...they don't need all the

little groups together. If they graze on soaked raw nuts fruits of

different colors and some small amount of veg...great! The Total

Nutrition in a smoothie even a tiny amount at first is GREAT!! They

won't need to eat their spinach after a smoothie with Total Nutrition

and some Udo's is great and it's enough. Still offer a variety of

foods- different types and colors...let it be FUN ;-)

2 year olds are busy anyway....a good supplement is important at this

age.

Kids naturally love fruit (fruit is anything with a pit or seeds inside

btw- including cukes, avocados, squash, red and yellow (don't eat green

they are unripe) peppers...etc. all FRUIT. Fruit is YUMMY!!!

If there was only one food group I could have for the rest of my life

it would be fruit. Mmmm, melons, cherries, plums, mangos, papaya (GREAT

breakfast food for kids), etc, etc...

They also love macademias, soaked almonds, raw cashews, pine nuts,

pecans, walnuts, etc.

Forget the " old model " for meals. I used to spend time in a yoga ashram

and breakfast there was usually miso soup. We are sooooo conditioned.

And...it's all made up!

Love,

Elizabeth

A favorite snack at my house is raw sprouted wheat. I just let it sit for about 2 days so they can chew it.

Almond milk is much better - easy to make... and sunflower seeds not nuts,,, pumpkin seeds... look at some of the raw food recipe websites... and get some great ideas too.

There are problems with soy... there are a number of articles in the message archives relating this.

Hi Suzie,

Almond milk, is that better than soy milk? She likes raisins and dried cranberries. I'll have to try sunflower nuts. An-Marie

An-Marie,

Try Almond milk... delish..... sprout your nuts... sunflower seeds, raisins, pumpkin seeds,

The TN is good... how about organic apple juice... she could live on organic juices and Total nutrition.

Hi Elizabeth,

Wow! I never knew so much, I always thought she would not eat some of the stuff you mentions. Now I feel very unexperience about my kids food choices. She loves unsalted raw cashews and now that you've mentioned plain food. She does like plain food. Its just so many people have mentioned to me in the pass that, offer food at meal time. If they don't want it, then they don't get anything else untill the next meal time. I've always disagree with that concept but thought I'd try it. It sometimes works, but they do get hungry in between. I've recently learned to listen to her body. When ever she is hungry she'll let me know, but it is up to me to give her the proper foods.

I've done veggie shakes in the pass for her and she loved them. Only when she turned 2, she started to make her own decision about what she wants to eat and not. This was the age when I stopped making shakes for her completely. I've recently started her on Total Nutrition. After mixing it, I have to 1/2 it with soy milk for her, otherwise she won't take it. I increase the amount of Total Nutrition to soymilk each day. So far so good.

Ok...I need to change her snack a bit. She has a picnic table right in the middle of our kitchen (we have a big kitchen) also has her own seat at the kitchen table. She mostly sit at her picnic table. I usually have a bowl of snack, consisting of: shredded wheats, pretzels, pop corn and raw cashews for her. When ever she is hungry, she'll craze at it. But when meal time comes. I give her her meals.

What is Raw Sprouted wheat? Can I get that at a health food store?

Hi Kelli,

Thank you. I was at Whole Foods today and I saw Almond Milk. It didn't say sprouded. Does that matter?

Well that is awsome! I can't get my daughter anywhere near Total Nutrition!! Good job! If you can get that in her then you're well ahead of the game!

I would try switching the soy milk to sprouted almond milk. There are recipes in the files. If you haven't listened to Doc's tape yet, get a copy from him off-line (it's free) and listen to it. Soy should just be avoided. (I'm really not trying to give you more problems here. You're doing great with the Total Nutrition and you can switch out the soy milk slowly.)

This is really a matter of parenting philosophy and values. I realize

this is not a parenting list and folks do have vastly different styles

of raising their children. I am firmly against bribes and rewards of

any kind. I don't think it's important to control our children as much

as it is important to instill self discipline and respect- mostly by

modeling these values. There is a fabulous book for those of you who

are parenting small children and looking for alternatives to

domination, rewards and other forms of manipulation- called The Kids

Are Worth It, by Barbara Colorosso. I believe when given healthy

choices it's fine for them to choose what they want- especially at 2

years old. It is not a good age to struggle.

The bottom line is is it a parents fault if kids eat junk. Guess what,

if you don't have junk foods and empty foods in the home...they don't

eat it! They don't get in the car and rive themselves to Micky D's.

Present healthy choices again and again and they will eat something

good. Keep it simple and make it fun. By giving a good supplement at

this age (and breastfeeding if possible) your child will be just fine.

I am much more interested in teaching my child what is healthy and

empowering good choices.

Love,

Elizabeth
