Guest guest
If you kid is having trouble in school, is it because he is board? If this is the problem, perhaps alternative schooling methods would be in order. Don't assume that just because the school has a problem with your kid that there is something wrong with the kid. As for depression, I beat that with a religious thing so you're probably not interested in that but good luck with it just the same. I thought I was doing the right thing since his teachers have been pushing the issue the last couple of years stating he can't focus, or sit still, etc. He is eight yrs old and a very sweet child. He has a different learning style and the school does not want to make accommodations. They even recommended meds. Well, when I brought him into his pediatrician, he immediately wrote a prescription for Ritalin. Needless to say, I never had it filled. I'e been doing a lot of reading and researching and trying to find "natural" and "homeopathic" ways to deal with his attention difficulties. We are currently trying fish oil supplements and have noticed somewhat of a difference. Also, I suffer from depression and would like to know different ways of dealing with that, since I would also like to deal with it without being on meds. Guest guest
Amy, my first response (re: your son) would be to find out what the heck the school is trying to do. And if they insisted on labelling and drugging your son, take him out of there! Either find another school where they don't have a problem with children behaving as children should, or school him yourself at home!! If the school cannot accommodate your son's learning style, give him the freedom at home to learn as he wishes! As for your own depression, I would suggest looking around you in your immediate environment, and find out WHO is the toxic person there who's making you miserable. And then remove him/her from your environment. You're sure to feel better then. It is important to fill your space with positiveness, to help you through life's trials and tribulations - a negative person will just bring you down. Possibly this trial with the school/psychologists/doctors has contributed to that negativeness? Other than that, yes, I have found valerian to help also. The best to both you and your son. I'm sure you'll both come out well at the other end, if you just follow your own " instincts " and knowingness on this one, and don't compromise with what you know to be right. love Lisa - " Amy " <alk27 <herbal remedies > Wednesday, February 04, 2004 4:43 AM Herbal Remedies - Hi, I'm new here...advice for depression and ADHD > Hi, > I'm new here and my son was just recently diagnosed with ADHD through > a neuropsychologist. Guest guest
It's not always another person in one's enviroment that is making one toxic. It can also be one's perceptions of their enviroment. Look at your priorities, your goals. Look many years into the future, is what you are doing now, really going to make a diffrence to you then. I have yet to hear of a person saying on their death bed "I wish I could of attended more meetings". They more often say "I wish I could have spent more time with my family" or how they wish they could have done some adventure before they became ill or injured. I have found that depression is caused more by focusing the energy of your life on things that are essentially meanningless. Now realizing this takes personal growth. Growth as a person and a spirit. Rule number 1, All personal growth is painful. Avoiding this pain will bring ignorance and lazyness, essentially, a rut. Embracing this pain as a learning tool brings enlightment and a renewel of energy. Guest guest
Depression is also sometimes (often?) triggered by physiological issues of an unhealthy body. Deficiencies and stresses to one's general health can trigger conditions that cause chemical imbalances and depression. I found out the many misconceptions of depression the hard way--by going through it myself. Wordweaver - It's not always another person in one's enviroment that is making one toxic. Guest guest
Lauren, why do people wish they had done things different? Because they are persuaded by toxic/negative people to do things other than what they know they should/want to be doing. If you really look at this for what it is, you'll find this to be true in every case. Where did you get that "personal growth is painful"? Perhaps your own personal experience? That doesn't mean it to be true for everyone. Guest guest
Amy good for you in not giving him the drug. Shoot an e-mail to Dr.IanShillington and request his free lecture on tape, listen to it and then give him a call for a free consult (number in the files). Meanwhile read the article in the files section under Articles titled The Myth and the Mystery. My boys have autism and Doc has helped me find ways to help them.
