Suzihettenna <hettenna wrote: Last Wednesday I realised that I had shingles on my face and rushed to Dr on Thursday because I know there is danger of it hitting the cornea. He put me in Valtrax and also some eye drops as I had outbreak on tip of nose which indicates possible eye involvement. Anyway, I was able to sooth the outbreak with cool herbal tea compresses and now using St.John's Wort oil on them. Also taking Lysine/Oliv Leaf/C/Ech and will start St.John's tincture as soon as Valtrex is finished tomorrow. Any ideas are welcomed. I don't think the eye was affected because altho there was some breakout under it I didn't seem to have any in it but will call the opthomalogist office tomorrow. If anyone has first hand experience with this please contact me. I want to make sure I have no scarring, its on mouth/nose/cheek/under eye (on one side of course)and now the blisters are drying out. I had a bout with shingles about 6 y ago on my leg and didn't take meds but instead had acupuncture/Lysine/olive leaf extract/St.John'sWort tincture/Echinacea/C etc plus St.J oil externally but had no breakout. This time ws afraid to take a chance of being blinded. Thanks for any input. I am very anxious about any possible eye damage.hetteFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
Here is some info I had in my files.... may be of some help... I would try a cayenne based salve.... or start taking cayenne tincture. Suzi Several herbs and herbal combinations are useful in the treatment of shingles. Lemon Balm Lemon balm has been proven to have some effect on viruses of the herpes family. How To Use: Make a tea with two teaspoons of dried leaf per cup of boiling water. Apply the tea directly to the rash with a cotton pad several times daily. Dr. Duke, author of "Green Pharmacy," suggests trying a mixed mint tea made with lots of lemon balm, a little licorice plus any other mints that you have on hand such as: HyssopOreganoPeppermintRosemarySageSpearmintThyme This beverage is loaded with antiviral, anti-herpetic compounds. It may be taken orally as a tea. Or, apply it directly to the rash. Red pepper Red pepper contains an ingredient called capsaicin that is a viable remedy for postherpetic neuralgia. Capsaicin brings relief by blocking pain signals from nerves just under the skin. Commercial creams such as Zostrix and Capzasin-P, contain capsaicin. How To Use: Mix powdered red pepper into any white skin lotion until it turns pinkish. Dab it on the rash. Wash your hands thoroughly after use. Pay particular attention to make sure that the pepper won't get in your eyes or on other sensitive areas. We suggest that you first test it on a small area of skin. Discontinue if it causes irritation. Licorice Licorice contains several antiviral and immune-boosting compounds. How To Use: Drink a weak tea. You can also apply a strong tea directly to the rash. Other Useful Herbs for Shingles St. John's wort and horsetail juice help rebuild nerves. Take 1 tbsp. of juice daily. Cabbage leaf poultices help absorb toxins and speed heating. Drink goldenrod and rose hip tea three times daily to stimulate the kidneys. Echinacea in high dosages is useful for pain control. Take 1 tsp. of the tincture hourly or more often as required. St. John's wort is very good for the treatment of any viral infection and depression. Colloidal oatmeal powder, when dusted on the affected part, reduces the pain from contact with clothes by acting as a dry lubricant. Herbal Combinations for Shingles Combine equal parts of oat straw, St. John's Wort, and skullcap tinctures. Take one teaspoonful of this mixture four times a day. Take 1 tbsp. of black walnut, comfrey, kelp and lady's slipper along with aloe vera juice daily. These herbs cleanse the intestinal tract and helps remove toxins which irritate the skin.hettenna <hettenna wrote: Thanks but I already checked the archives by typing in shingles and nothing came up SiteBuilder - Free web site building tool. Guest guest
Isn't Valtrex for genital herpes? YUP...but that is where commercials SUCK!! Onthe flip side, the shingles are viral in nature, and Valtrex is simply a topical anti viral, despite the connotation to herpes....LOL...I am NOT laughing at the question, just the fact that some things just have automatic responses in most of us, myself included. But then again, I would probably run to tea tree, peppermint and eucalyptus. Love... BlazeTrue health starts with the mind and manifests in the body... Guest guest
Note to Moderators: Please don't take this as an advertisment and I hope I am not violating any TOS with this post. If I am I apologize. I use to get cold sores (shingles is a form of the herpes virus, I think) all the time. I changed my diet around, took many herbs and other things to combat the cold sores. I even went on a pure, fresh organic juice diet for breakfast and dinner for a couple of months. My health and overall feeling of well being increased dramatically, but I would still get cold sores every few weeks or so. There is stuff you can put on them, tea tree oil seemed to work good for me but I would still get them as this would only combat it from the outside. I had heard about a product called the zapper that hulda clark used to combat many things, which uses a small electrical frequency. I bought a model called the terminator zapper which is small, lightweight and much easier to use, but based on the original hulda clark design. This was in August. I wore the device for 8-10 hours a day for 2 months or so (and yes I did miss some days here and there). But since I started using the device in mid August I haven't had a cold sore since. And I haven't needed to wear it since. I hope this information is helpful and if anyone wants more information on this please email me offline or if the moderators want I will post some info on the device here. I don't sell these, make these or have any financial interest here at all. I just wanted to pass on something that worked for me and hope it can help others out. Information pages on this device also say it has helped with Shingles. *~*Blaze*~* [obsidianblaze] Mon 1/26/2004 3:24 PM herbal remedies Cc: RE: Herbal Remedies - shingles on face Isn't Valtrex for genital herpes? Guest guest
Rob, I've been using the zapper for awhile now too. What I notice the most is an increased sense of well being when I use it after not using it for awhile. It's very subtle and I feel fine but feel even better after zapping for a few days!! I love it. It hasn't affected my energy level which could be better although I've heard people report that too.
