Guest guest
Hanneke, The problem is NO ADVERTISING YOUR WEB SITE WHERE PROFITS CAN BE MADE. Thus saying this, if I sell homemade soap, (it's not herbal) why can't I advertise my site... I have info on the site about herbs and plants also... Get the idea.. You go to my site - get good info and see some soap you like so you order it... I make a profit... This is where the problem comes ... there is valuable info on my website, but there is also stuff I'm selling to make money. You cannot allow one without allowing all 1800 + members. If a person has good info on their website, then let them copy and paste it if they wish to share.. many have done that in the past... If not, then I guess we know what their intention really was.. I have taken info from sites I've found and given it to the group without listing the website that also sells things.. And let's not forget that we can all 'surf' the web for info also... I do almost daily, as does Don and a few others... sometimes it takes awhile to come up with the right words to find information, and the search might take you thru pages and pages till you find the info.. but ignorance and apathy is, in my opinion, laziness. How do you know something you read from someone you don't know is always true if you don't research it? We get many interesting approaches on this list from people wanting to sell, promote,e tc... many times we stop them before they get thru to the list members, but not always.. And many times we (mods) get emails asking if it is okay to post and what their intentions are. Does this help answer your question.. Yes, she has a good website, however, she is selling things for profit on it, and if we allow her then we have to allow all 1800 + ... Do you really want to read all those emails advertising their products??? Promoting own websites is a no no, and certainly when there is a loud commercial aspect to it I understand wholeheartedly. But I'm beginning to think that we should not cut off ways to become more educated on what we need to preserve. Preservation through awareness and knowledge is our only way to be able to have access to herbals, and fight for its existence. Whether that is through political channels to fight the law makers who wants us to stop using herbs or joining those that fight for the existence of the actual growing habitats. This fight is a two edged sword, we can't remain ignorant and just use what we can find in shops. Part of the reason that we (wordlwide) experience the onslaught on herbs is because of ignorance and apathy amongst the majority of people due to lack of information on this. I would say: don't cut your nose to spite your face. It is good to have knowledgable people on the list. If in longer term it appears they can't abide by the basic rules, exchange of medicinal herbal info, I'd say there is plenty of time to ban them.
