Guest guest
I would like to thank Valorie for her insightful answers to sprouting medicinal seeds. One point I'd like to make, however, is that Hawthorn berries DO have a very pleasant flavor. They are not bitter. Just crunchy. Haws have been used in Europe traditionally to make jelly. If you do a search on for Hawthorn Jelly, you will find several recipes, it is used with wild game, on sconces, etc. I have never tried it personaly, (too much sugar), but I do take 1/2 tsp of crushed hawthorn berries 2x/day for blood pressure, and I mix it in yogurt. (Can't chew them, too crunchy. they have to be mixed into something you can swallow without chewing) They do have a cherry-like flavor. Now Schisandra berries are a different story. They taste like you are biting into a Christmas tree. A green, piney, resionous, Christmas tree. A taste reminiscent of Pine Sol. Someone had earlier asked about the results of poppy seed sprouting... Not worth the effort. They are too small, take too long to germinate, and once they do sprout, there isn't enough sprout there, just a tiny, miniscule clear thread. I love garbanzo beans sprouted. I know they are not medicinal, but they are so-o-o-o-o-o much better than canned garbanzo's, and So-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o much cheaper! My DH doesn't like the "tail" (root) when it sprouts, however. (they look like a giant tadpole) You should see him eating a salad, and picking out the garbanzo's to give them a tail-ectomy. LOL My favorite sprouts are sunflower, fennugreek, garbanzo, lentil, and mustard seed. Still love the old standby's, alfalfa and mung bean, though. Happy sprouting!! windflower Hotjobs: Enter the "Signing Bonus" Sweepstakes
