Good question!! I don't know that it would have much medicinal value. Nutrient value might be alright but I am not sure how eating papaver sprouts would taste or if they would even be edible by our standards. Do let us know what you find out though as I am very interested in this concept.

Herbal Remedies - poppy seeds

We were talking about poppies a few months ago. I have a question that as far as I know, has never been addressed anywhere.

I have a sprouter, and I have sprouted some poppy (papaver somniferum) seeds, and they are just beginning to germinate. When they send up the little green shoots, would there be any medicinal or nutritional value to them?

Would they be safe to consume? (The seeds are organic)

Has anyone ever done this?

Dear Windflower,

I am not speaking from experience here, only from what I've read.

There should be nutritional value, but no medicinal value from a narcotic viewpoint.

There should be no problem taking them whatsoever.

Basically, it's food ;o)
