Guest guest
Hi Phyllis, Certainly is. This will happen with any grain, nut or seed. You cook em you kill em. Got to heat them for long periods at temps below 130F. Guest guest
Hi Granny, Doc Christopher mentions this as well. Works really well too. Keeps the oatmeal alive for the most part. Don Q. - tvksi herbal remedies Monday, January 12, 2004 6:04 AM Herbal Remedies - Re: oatmeal soaking Don, a few yeas back i was trying to lower the colesterol so went the oatmeal as well as the niacine rout and i would put the raw oatmeal in my soup thermos and pour very hot water in it and by the time i had had my morning bath it would be plenty warm but not cooked to death.love.. grany leeherbal remedies , "Don Quai" <mysticalherbalist> wrote:> Hi Jen,> > Okay so you want hot oatmeal. Guest guest
Actually Persian, The oats should be soaked first overnight and then heated. That part is correct. What Dr. Christopher actually refers to is not rolled oats but whole oats and grains. However, it will work with the rolled variety too. Just need to remember to soak them first overnight and then gently heat them. Don Q. - Persian herbal remedies Tuesday, January 13, 2004 11:10 AM Re: Herbal Remedies - Re: oatmeal soaking So is this it's only soaking or is it soaked in cold water first?I thought things were meant to be soaked overnight or 12 hours, is this wrong?thanksPersian ---Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Guest guest
Okay Jen, Yeah we missed you too. Hope you had a good time and welcome back. You are not domestically challenged just a little ignorant of cooking is all. A double boiler is a pan that you fill with water. It then has a second pan that fits snugly inside of the first in which you put whatever you want to inside of it and it has a lid. These are used quite effectively for making Hollandaise sauces and things that you really don't wish to cook but to gently heat. Now I suggest you soak your oats. Then place them into the setup Granny suggested. But instead of pouring 180 F water into your oats, you might wish to just pour 130 F water onto your oats. Any higher and you are going to destroy the enzymes that are in your oats. I have tried the double boiler method but I can't get the heat low enough (gas range). If you have an electric you might be able to get yours down low enough to just slowly heat your oats overnight. Hope I answered your question?
