Guest guest
I know people advocate the Mediterranean Diet as being one of the most healthful, but I recently read that the modern day people of Crete are as unhealthy as any other western nation. The reason for this is that the Mediterranenan Diet only works with the days-of-yore Mediterranean lifestyle which included a lot of hard work, walking miles a day, etc. Modern life has caught up with Crete and now they are just as unhealthy as anyone else--especially since they eat such a high fat diet. Obesity and heart disease is as prevalent there as it is in the US and Europe because Cretans are now taking at easy. So the diet, without the lifestyle, flat out doesn't work to improve health. And the Mediterranean Diet, rich in refined pastas, too much oil, and fatty meats, is actually somewhat harmful. The harm was tempered in the past by the active lifestyles they led, but now they are just as sick as anyone who eats this type of diet. Guest guest
That certainly makes sense, the more westernized a society becomes, the more unhealthy they are. I was talking about the days of yore diet, in the age of my grandparents and great grandparents and before (I am 26). That is interesting, however. Is there a study or something that was published on this? herbal remedies , " keridwen2000 " <keridwen@i...> wrote: > I know people advocate the Mediterranean Diet as being one of the > most healthful, but I recently read that the modern day people of > Crete are as unhealthy as any other western nation.
