Guest guest
Hi everyone. I am new to this group. I've been reading the archives and am excited to learn from all of you. I have a question that I didn't see answered in the archives... I have really badly chapped lips. They are much worse this fall and winter than they ever have been. Every time I smile or just open my mouth wide, my lips crack open and bleed. Other than drinking more water, (I already drink at least 64 oz a day. I weigh 115 lbs...) what can I do to help my lips. They are really sore. Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer. -Krista

Guest guest
My experience is chapped lips mean your body is dehydrated. Try drinking extra water. Guest guest
Rub honey on your lips. I know, it's sticky, but it does the job quickly! Guest guest
Make sure you're getting all of your essential fatty acids. Your body doesn't make them, but it needs them, so you must get them from food or supplement sources, preferable the former. Certain fats are necessary to break down fat-soluable vitamins like Vitamin E that are good for skin. So that's what you can do internally. Good sources that I know of (there are probably more) are flaxseed, certain other nuts & seeds, and certain types of fish (make sure, as much as you can, that it's organic. I like salmon myself, and I've heard that those from like Norway or the Pacific are comparatively low in toxins.) Externally, you can apply beeswax. I have a Vitamin E stick from my health food store that has (in order): soybean oil, candella (sp?) wax, beeswax, caster oil, octylmethoxycinnamate, ozokerite, oxybenzone, cetyl esters, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E), olive oil, aliantoin, propylparaben, linden essential oil. Now I don't know what all those ingredients are, nor can I pronounce all of them. I can't guarantee that they're good for us. (If anyone has any further knowledge, plz enlighten me ) But I do know that it heals very effectively. I'm also amazed at how FAST it works. And unlike a VAST majority of conventional so-called " moisturizing " lotions out there, this stuff does NOT burn or sting when applied to broken skin. Just my experience, hope it helps --Jen herbal remedies , " Josef and Krista Nielsen " <josefandkrista@c...> wrote: > Hi everyone. I am new to this group. Guest guest
I second the essential fatty acid comment. Also, I have one thing to add... My lips get chapped when I put too much lip stuff on (salve, etc). If I put it on any more than twice a day, unless I am out in the wind or winter weather, they get chapped. If you use something like blistex, stop. That also makes my lips worse. There is something in it that causes peeling and makes you addicted to it. herbal remedies , " Josef and Krista Nielsen " <josefandkrista@c...> wrote: > Hi everyone. I am new to this group.
