Guest guest
Does she get enough calcium? This is sometimes a sign of lack of calcium... lots of green veges, etc... I know there is a cream made for nail biting.. Suzivictoriameetze <victoriameetze wrote: is ther anything I can do. My daughters hands are constantly in her mouth. Guest guest
I bit my nails for years. I think it was partially a boredom-in- school thing, and partially a picky thing...as in, I couldn't stand one little hangnail on the side or my nails splitting (the long way, just the white part) like they do when they grow out too much, so I'd bite it off. Wellll, one bite led to another and before I knew it, I'd slowly torn off the whole (white) nail! Didn't really mean to do that, but each bite left a rough spot or little piece that wasn't smooth and I just HAD to take care of that one, too. My solution? I got myself a small nailclipper and as SOON as there was a small hangnail or imperfection in my nails, I trimmed them...not cut them off, but I trimmed the problem away. And then, with no out-of-place nail pieces to nitpick about, I got more involved in my classwork. I know that's a really basic solution, but it cured me permanently. After biting for about 8-9 yrs I've been rid of the habit for about 10. Even today, I just keep my nails relatively short and I trim them at the first sign of trouble. Just my experience Hope it helps --Jen herbal remedies , Suzanne <suziesgoats> wrote: > Does she get enough calcium? This is sometimes a sign of lack of calcium... lots of green veges, etc... Guest guest
How old is your daughter? I had that problem as a little girl. My mom put every kind of yucky tasting ointment they had at the drugstore on my fingernails....didn't work. The " yuckies " line didn't work either. I was frustrated and just kept eating away at myself. I was always sickly and skinny and just got tired of everyone commenting on how sickly and skinny and imperfect I was. It's a pain being compared to other kids when you can't do a thing about stuff. One day an adult spoke up in my defense and said to my mother, " so what? She can make decisions for herself. If she wants to bite her nails let her, they are her nails. If she doesn't, well that's okay too. " I stopped biting my nails. I think it was the " she can make decisions for herself line. " Made me feel important somehow, and more worthy as a little person. Still it could just be plain old lack of nourishment to support her nerves and calcium could calm her down some as Suzi says. herbal remedies , " victoriameetze " <victoriameetze> wrote: > is ther anything I can do. Guest guest
interesting, Jen. thanks for sharing. one of my sons was a nail biter, and he had teeny-tiny little hard pieces of something work out of the skin on his back as an adult and his wife really believes they were bits of nail fragments. no inflamation, just these little tiny hard bits of whatever that looked like very tiny bits of nails. love.. granny lee ---- Original Message ----- supervixen08 I bit my nails for years. >
Guest guest
it is sad how peope hurt the ones they love by thinking they have to bully or shame them into being what they consider perfect. thumb sucking and bed wetting are two other things that children are unnecessarily ragged about. granny---- Original Message ----- from: peacefulglow ....snip.. Guest guest
Years ago when I was at school we used to get this awful brownish liquid put on our nails to stop us biting them and I think it was called bitter aloes. Sounds like a plant? hmm that's all I can remember. Persian
Guest guest
How old is she? How long has she been doing it? What is her diet and lifestyle like? Maybe if we can figure out why she is biting them and fix that, she will not need to bite them anymore.
