Never, do the kids get sick while there, it takes its time to run amok, the kids come home, and BAM...YOU are stuck with the sickes!!! My pet peeve, sorry, mini vent here, is my daughter's dad, he insists on taking her to fancy places that serve fancy scavengers, and she has a shellfish allergy. So, what does he do? Offer it to her anyway, and pick the shrimp out, like shrimp juice won't have the same affect, then her asthma goes crazy, I try to herbalize her, and am then DEMONIZED because she doesn't have any asthma meds, and I got rid of her asthma myself a few years ago with dietary change and more exercise, now all my work was for naught!!! Gotta start from scratch, and EVERY other weekend, for the first 3 days she i s back, hack, hack, blow, blow blow, hack, sneeze, hack hack!! Drives me INSANE!!! Any advice on how to acclimate kids into healthier ways of eating without them feeling like they are missing our because all of their buddies are eating chili cheese fries, and mechanically separated hot dogs?? Sorry, bit long winded, but Anna, I agree, and next time I will do JUST that!!! Love... BlazeTrue health starts with the mind and manifests in the body... Guest guest
How old is the daughter?? Old enough to say "NO" Yup..well beyond old enough..and therein lies my problem, she seems so dingbattish as to how she is ruining her health...I could go on for days...but my situation HAS to change so I can take the reigns back. Because I am a single mom, my family tries to overcompensate, and usually food wise...at one point my GRANDMOTHER was buying her grease from the chicken shack EVERY DAY after school. Now, although I was not NEARLY as health conscious as I am now, I still didn't like it, and told her so, then resorted to "don't tell your mom I took you, k??" I didn't know, until I saw the spread, and she spread and is still spreading, and now is like some kind of uncontrollable beast!! Not literally..but it is SO hard when those areound you don't seem to want to help. And her dad? His disregard could very well be life threatening at some point. Sad, but she will have to be hospitalized or some nonsense while in his care for him to understand whay I am the say that I am. I think he feels I am trying to tell his what to do, and therefore, he and his wife do the opposite....sigh...Love... BlazeTrue health starts with the mind and manifests in the body... Guest guest
Reminds me of a case I heard of about a year ago. A parent was ordered by the court to not smoke in her home, near her home, near her children, in her car, all because of the effects fo second hand smoke. It prompted me to do a study of second hand smoke and the effects on children of smokers, their preformance in school, behaviour, etc. Not a pretty picture. Sad if it has to be made a legal issue, but I know I was about to take it on. Hanneke~Australia supervixen08 <supervixen08 wrote:Hmm...gee, sounds like a perfectly normal healthy loving father...not! Guest guest
Hello all! First of all, I'm back from a wonderful holiday. Took longer to get back on-line than expected. I missed all of you! Just wanted to respond to this post as I had something similar happen while on our road trip over New Years' week. We were driving and my daughter (9 yrs old) had been munching on BBQ potato chips in the back seat. I was reading parts of the "Sugar Blues" book to my husband who was driving. I hadn't read the book before. It is GOOD!! Anyway, when we stopped for a potty break I asked my daughter where her chips were. She said she had put them away and wasn't going to eat anymore because they were bad for her. I asked her what she meant and she said that she had been listening to me read the book out loud! The little bits of that book were powerful enough to get her to give up one of her favorite snacks, and has since refused other sugar as well! Anyway, there is hope for the next generation! For my daughter, at any age it seems, giving her the real data (not the school lunchroom data) on things and then letting her make up her own mind has worked the best. Not 100%, and I still get frustrated with it, but there is progress. :)Kelli *~*Blaze*~* [obsidianblaze] Monday, January 05, 2004 4:26 PMherbal remedies Subject: Re: [herbal remedies] Re: Relatives/'friends' giving sugar to our kids!!!!!!!!!!
