Guest guest
Dear Marti, As is usual in natural healing practices, the asking of the exact question in exactly the right manner is sometimes more important than the answer itself. Usually the right question will lead to the solution ;o) In your question below, you ask for the "best way to bring a fever down". The misleading part in asking it this way, is in "bringing it down", and this can lead to various different solutions, with some of them being "non optimum", "non workable" or even "destructive" in the long run. For Example: If your sole purpose is to bring a fever down the best, or at least the fastest way would be the allopathic approach using antibiotics. This can work very quickly, and in an emergency situation might very well be the place to start. However, using antibiotics is not the optimum way of bringing a fever down or at least in "handling" a fever. A better question would be exactly that: "What is the best way to "HANDLE" a fever???" Now we are looking at the whole picture, rather than just concentrating on "bringing the temperature down". Get the idea? I'm sorry if it looks as if I'm being nit-picky here, but asking the exact right question can sometimes lead to tremendously workable solutions. As Don Quai says, there are no "stupid" questions, but there are some questions that are better than others, and it is worth a thought or two to try and fine tune even the questions you ask yourself. "What is the best way to HANDLE a fever???" Answer: The best way is to work with the body, and help the body accomplish what it was trying to do by bringing on the fever in the first place. A body will turn on a fever in order to handle some kind of infection and / or a toxicity. Why would we fight this by bypassing the body's natural defense mechanism (creating the fever in the first place), and offering an antibiotic to prematurely bring that fever down when there could very well be a more serious underlying problem that needs to be addressed??? Expananation: For every degree your body temperature rises, the speed of your white blood cells doubles. That means, that a temperature of 104*F has raised this cell activity to 64 times faster. And, it is the white blood cells that get in there and knock off the bad guys. If there is a major infection happening in the body, why would you want to stop this natural, survival activity of your body??? The idea is to contribute to the body's effort and help it accomplish what it is already trying to do naturally. This means Echinacea (to boost the immune system), Garlic (to aid in the killing of the infection), and Hot Baths and Saunas (see below). When I have a patient come to me with a fever of 104*, I put 'em in a hot bath or a sauna and see if I can jack that temperature up to 106* or higher. This is creating a "false" fever. It is also the basic principle behind Doc Christopher's Cold Sheet Treatment though far less traumatic and without the negative, mental, side effects. "Buuuuuuuutttt, wait a minute!!!", you say. "What about the brain damage that can follow such a high temperature???" Welllllllllllll, this is just some more Medico "False Data" in that it is only "Half" an answer or should I say another incorrect or incomplete question. ;o) This is actually a dangerous way to look at it or ask it, in that there is truth to it, but it doesn't offer any solution. Again, we need to ask the question the right way in order to be able to "look" and come to a sane solution. IE: "How can one create a false fever and / or contribute to the motion of an existing fever without risking any brain damage???" Ahhhhhhhhh, at least asking it this way allows for a solution rather than freaking out and demanding antibiotics to interupt the body's natural defense mechanism. Let's ask a couple more good quesions here. "What happens in the body when a fever is created either artificially or by the body itself?" "Is there a natural solution for counter acting whatever happens in the body when a fever is created???" Answer #1: When the body creates a fever, it dehydrates = expells moisture (water). Answer #2: Add water. This solution is extremely simple and immediate! This is why my favorite solution for "handling" a fever is to throw a person into a hot bath, and have them drink 6 cups of Ginger or Yarrow Tea. Not only do they absorb moisture directly through the skin, but these two teas are diaphoretic = makes you sweat and keeps your body "hydrated". I've created false fevers as high as 108* with not even the slightest sign of brain damage or dementia. Yeah, the person was uncomfortable for a short time (half an hour), but they woke up the next day without either the fever or the infection. It was all gone, and never came back. Unlike antibiotics that only suppress the fever and leaves the infection (especially if viral), this handling permanently handles the condition and helps the body do what it was designed and trying to do in the first place, which is correct itself. Hope this is not too long winded and is helpful to y'all. Guest guest
Doc, Have you ever met a person who doesn't (never) have a fever even with a very big infection? And what could be the cause of that?
