Guest guest
Hi all, Sorry if this is OT, but I have a question about multivitamins. I know that Total Nutrition and Panther piss is what I should be taking, but I just can't seem to drink TN and I know it is my pregnancy because I was drinking TN fine with apple juice and even putting it in my salads before I was 3 months into my pregnancy. Anyhow, to the question. I was prescribed a multivitamin with iron in it. The vitamin is supposed to be taken on an empty stomach because of the iron not absorbing properly if taken with food. My understanding is that vitamins don't absorb well without food, isn't this true? I asked my doc about it and they basically said that I should take the vitamin on an empty stomach if I can. I also asked if I was anemic and they said my blood levels were fine, of course they prescribed the extra iron before even seeing my blood test which I thought was weird anyway. I know with my first pregnancy I was borderline anemic and they just said to take an extra iron supplement. Anyway, I bought a pregnancy multivitamin from the HFS and have taken Panther Piss, but not regularly for the iron. I want to get someone's opinion from here before I start taking the prescribed vitamin with iron in it. I guess my real concern is taking the extra iron when I may not need it, especially if the vitamins aren't being absorbed properly because of no food to help it along. Thanks for any info! Guest guest
Lisa, I would take the TN in whatever juice you can possible get it down in. I liked smoothies when I was pregnant, but every pregnancy is different. I never took a prescribed vitamin with Alyssa and she is my healthiest child. Blend the teaspoon of TN in with your drink and let it sit for a minute or two, give it a stir and drink it. It shouldn't taste like anything and will be smoothe this way. Your body can absorb and utalize the iron from plant matter better than from something inorganic like elemental iron. Guest guest
only 1 tsp? The doc recommends 2 TBL... I know I could handle 1 tsp in anything, but is that enough. Guest guest
LOL! I am sorry Lisa. It is 2TBL. I split mine to 1 morning and night though. Really, blend it good with a yummy shake - make it your favorite fruit and a little almond or rice milk. It is a yucky color, but does not taste bad at all.
