Dear Friends,I have just joined the group, directed here by a member of another who saw a question that I posted with out much success.I have just met with a client who has been diagnosed with Diabetes Insipidus. I have gleaned plenty of info about what it is and the allopathic response, but can't find much from the natural health sources that I use.Diabetes Insipidus, as I understand it, is characterized by excretion of large amounts of dilute urine, which disrupts the body's water regulation. To make up for this lost water, the person feels the need to drink large amounts of water and has to urinate frequently, even at night, which obviously disrupts sleep. There is also a dangerthat, because of the excretion of abnormally large volumes of dilute urine, the person quickly becomes dehydrated. The

cause can either lie in a weak kidney that can't absorb ADH - an antidiuretic hormone - or from the hypothalamus failing to produce the ADH. So I assume I am looking for herbs that are have the opposite effect to diuretic herbs and am rather stumped. In addition, I would appreciate anything else that can be a part of a treatment protocol. It is important to note that we are talking about a man in his late seventies who I would describe as active, but somewhat fragile … and not clearly sold on natural healing.Thank you all for any help. Suzi - thank you for the prompt reply.

Diet - mainly veggie with occasional poultry. White bread, rice etc. –

He is moving over to a more wholesome diet, primarily because his

wife believes in it and she does the cooking.

A total cleanse – I am doubtful if he could / would deal with this (I

am slightly apprehensive because of his age and the fact that he has

never done this before). The idea of a 3-day fruit fast is well

beyond his willingness at this time. I could move him into this

direction herbally speaking and definitly imrove his diet.

Is there a specific reasoning behind the suggestion, or a more

general treatment protocol?

Thank you for your time, Suzi.

Hi Alon,

What is this gentleman's diet consist of? Drink? Food? Does he drink coffee, teas, dairy, sodas, alcohol? Does he drink plenty of water? Does he get plenty of sunshine and fresh air? Is he a meat eater, lots of preprocessed foods? Cooked foods? Greasy foods? Junk foods? Fast foods? Does he eat in restaurants a lot? Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables? Does he smoke? What medications is he taking? What do you mean by active and how is he fragile (other than his age)? What is his lifestyle like? Jetsetter? Sedentary?

Awaiting your answers,

Don Quai

Hi again Alon,

Which form of DI was he diagnosed with? Nephrogenic, dipsogenic or neurogenic?

Personally, other than, quite possibly dietary changes and lifestyle changes, I would venture to go and say he needs hormone or glandular balancing and tonic herbal preps.

Has he suffered any head injuries at any time? Tumors in the head? This can cause damage to the posterior portion of the pituitary where vasopressin is created. Vasopressin is a hormone that acts on the kidney to reduce urine output.

Just thinking out loud,
