Hi Persian,

What is wrong with beeswax that you can't use it?

Right off the top of my head the only other things I can think of that might possibly work, instead of beeswax, would be lanolin or tallow. You really don't want to use paraffin.

HTH,

Don Quai (quietly contemplating how ear wax could fit into this)

The reason the coconut fat and cocoa butter don't work is cause you mixed them with an oil. They will never set up by themselves that way. This is why beeswax is used or hard tallow.

I used the dried herbs, plantain, chickweed etc, ground up and I cooked them really slow in almond oil a low oven with the door open for a few hours till the oil was coloured. I read this in the Herbal Medicine MakersHandbook. Then after straining the oil I mixed in some of the coconut fat till it melted but it never set again once the oil was in it. As I can't use beeswax does anyone know a way to get

ointments or salves to set? Also I dont know if I should be making an ointment that sits on the skin ora cream that is absorbed? The next thing I tried was cocoa butter, it came in solid pieces but once againwhen mixed with any oil it would not reset, I just tried warming a couple ofspoons of the oil and melting in some (expensive) cocoa butter, without herbs, for a trial, but I can't get anything to firm up.PersianFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. You must be part Slovenian. I never considered insects to be animals but over here anything that moves by its own volition is called an animal, even fleas, ticks, worms etc. Funny how different languages use different words with a different meaning than ours to say the same thing. HUH???

Hi Persian,

Got a crockpot? Maybe one of those miniature crock pots they use for potpourri? Place the shea or mango butter in it, turn it on low and let it melt. Then add your herbs. Let it heat for a couple of hours and then strain, press or stomp to get the liquid butter back out of the herbs. Then bottle it and allow it to set up. Should work that way with no water. Or you can use the water method. Just have to keep heating the butter till all the water evaporates. I would evaporate as much water as possible first before adding into the butter.

from the same thing you described about it being in the jar looking like

fat..well anyway the

paste i made i put it in the fridge and it set in about an hour. The paste

contained coconut oil,

olive oil,and chopped garlic and that's what worked. I don't know much but i

hope that helps.

Is that everyhting you put in the paste? I really don't want something that

only sets in the

fridge cos the poor little cat doesn't much like really cold cream on her tummy!

hehe

I know that olive oil does set in the fridge by itself, I would just like the

salve

I make to be just like the white coconut fat which is solid just in the

cupboard.

But I still have to get the herbs in there somehow.

Even with the Shea or Mango butter, how can I add the herbs as the problem seems

to be

nothing will set at room temp with oil in, so I am wondering if it's possible

to use an infusion and sort of evaporate the water off??

Thanks heaps to all who have helped with this,

regards

Persian
