Guest guest
Macrobiotics is a way of life. It allows us to understand everything in the universe according to laws of change and harmony. By applying this understanding to our own lives, we can more fully align with nature to achieve harmony and balance. Macrobiotics can guide us to make better choices in our food, eating habits, activity and lifestyle. This will lead to better physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health. In addition, macrobiotics can help heal our societal and environmental ills. The macrobiotic way of eating and living has been naturally practiced by traditional societies around the globe for millennia. These peoples didn’t have to analyze everything they were doing; they used their intuition to guide their lives. In this day and age, we have lost this intuitiveness and have come to rely on others to dictate our lives. Macrobiotics seeks to teach us to recover this intuition so that we may rely on ourselves to maintain our health and overall well-being day by day. In Western medicine, the definition of health is the apparent absence of symptoms and disease. In macrobiotics, there is a positive image of what it means to be a vibrant healthy person. Also, health and disease are not considered to be static entities. Each is a direction, and we can either move in the direction towards health, or in the direction towards illness. Whether you consider yourself to be healthy, or have a degenerative or even life-threatening illness, you can begin to move in the direction of health. When we live in alignment with nature and our environment, we are in balance and can live our lives fully. When we are out of balance, our bodies gently alert us with symptoms. If we ignore them, eventually a disease state evolves. These signs and symptoms should not be viewed as enemies invading our bodies, which need to be suppressed or eradicated. Rather, they are part of us, arising from within. They are there to urge us to make the proper adjustments in our diet and lifestyle so that we may bring ourselves back into a balanced, healthy state. The macrobiotic way of eating is based on a diet of whole grains and vegetables. Each food has its own particular type of energy that is imparted to us when we eat it. Whole grains and vegetables have the most balanced energies, and so create peaceful energy within us.In macrobiotics, the image of a meal is different. Whole grains and vegetables are the centerpiece of creating a meal. In our modern society, when planning a meal, the first question usually asked is “What’s my protein?” In macrobiotics, the question is rephrased “What’s my grain?” Once that is decided, we choose one or more vegetable dishes to complement the grain dish. Then we may also add supplementary foods such as beans or bean products, sea vegetables, soup, fish, or other foods to round out the meal.Leah <edwardsera wrote: What is Macrobiotic foods?
