Guest guest
Hi Lynn, Look in the Files under doc's recipes and use the nerve formula. It helps. Also, if you can afford to, do something good for yourself once or twice a month when the boys are at school. Get a foot massage, manicure, or something that makes you feel your true beautiful self. If you have to stay home to care for your parent you may be able to have a massage therapist, facialist, reflexologist or other touch therapist come to your home. Or contact a friend to trade facials or manicures with over tea. Being a caregiver is a difficult lifestyle to balance because you have the type of personality that wants to give and care for others, but you get overwhelmed because there is no one there to see that you need special attention and rest too. You have to arrange for your special attention. It's important to have some physical and/or spiritual attention for yourself at this time. If you don't take special care of yourself and balance your needs FIRST, you may not be able to properly help others with their burdens...and it may be that this is what is starting to occur. I was the primary care giver to a parent from my late teens until I was in my early thirties. I didn't have a social life and although I was trained well in alternative health approaches, I didn't take care of myself. I kept thinking there wasn't time and I could do it tomorrow. I'm paying for that now. You don't have too. Start doing something good for yourself today. And keep to it. Files, nerve sedative...good stuff. herbal remedies , " lynnmaries67 " <klkasheehan@n...> wrote: > Hi. I am new to this group and have a question. Guest guest
For stress and angry feelings, I have had good results with GABA, an amino acid, and a product called 200 mg. of Zen (i believe that's right.. it has GABA and thianine, a relative or precursor of GABA. Then act as neurotransmitters.) Lately, I have been taking acetecholine, (hope I spelled it correctly, and find it helps my mood a lot, too. You might get this from lecithin, or just buy it in capsules, like I do.. You could check iHerb.com for comparison shopping. I also like passion flower and valerian together. 5htp, a form of tryptophan, made from gryphonia seeds, has been good for me, too, helping mood and sleep, but there may be drawbacks to long term use, so I don't use it every day, though I used to, with no apparent problems. None of the above things made me tired or sleepy, just more calm and relaxed. Of course there is great herbal stuff in the files, here on this list and the doc and others will give you their good suggestions, too! I also think it's very important to get regular aerobic exercise, preferrably outside in nature, breathe deeply, get enough rest, water etc. If you are a vegetarian, you might want to make sure you get enough protien, B vitamins, etc.. Of course, if you are angry, maybe you have some valid things to be upset about, and getting to the cause of those things will be necessary, before anything else will be anything but a band-aid! : ) Some kind of therapeutic process or counseling would be very helpful, or even just some good conversation with a good friend who is a compassionate and good listener. Hope that helps.. Scott. herbal remedies , " lynnmaries67 " <klkasheehan@n...> wrote: > Hi. I am new to this group and have a question. Guest guest
I have had severe, chronic problems with irritability and anger, and I now have it under control almost all of the time. This is what I do: #1) ELIMINATE SUGAR. All candy, sugar cereals, etc must go. Sugar eats up the brain chemicals one needs to stay on track. #2) Eliminate chocolate. #3) Cut back on all salt. I've found that while salt doesn't do much by way of altering mood, it induces my cravings for sweets/chocolate. #4) Take a B-Complex supplement with lunch. All help mood, especially B5, which I've found is the anti-stress vitamin. All work best when taken together. A natural source of B, especially B5, is Bee's Royal Jelly. Found at health food stores, 2 oz will run about $18 but it lasts you a while. Get the refrigerated kind. What I do is spread it on bread like butter and put honey over it to mask the taste. Works wonders. #5) Turkey and salmon (if you're not vegetarian) have worked wonders for me. Both contain good amounts of protein AND tryptophan, which also help boost the helpful brain chemicals responsible for mood. I've found I shouldn't consume them with heavy starches or fruit, as that causes me and other ppl I know digestive and ultimately colon probs. Have them with lots of veggies. #6) Valerian root totally relaxes me. It makes me a bit tired in large doses, but only when I WANT to be tired. It helps me sleep if I want to. In smaller doses, though, the only effect it has on me is to calm me down. Just one more remedy to add to your files, I hope it helps Peace, --Jeni Laura > herbal remedies , " lynnmaries67 " > <klkasheehan@n...> wrote: > > Hi. I am new to this group and have a question.
