Guest guest
Just want to share this article that I received from another list with you folks, for the most part, a very good post. However, I do not promote Tylenol or Motrin whatsoever. We take and promote Total Tonic and Echinacea tincture. Phyllis Here it is: I received this email today ( I live in Colorado) Kim S HEALTH ALERT! AMANTODINE -- ANTI-VIRAL COCKTAIL FOR INFLUENZA A Dear friends & family, Many of you might have heard of several child deaths from the Flu in Colorado, and perhaps around the country. Today I took my 3-1/2 year old daughter to the doctor's as she's been running a 103 fever (up and down) for the past 2 days. I spoke to 3 different nurse practitioners over the course of the passed 2 days, and all of them have to my surprise gave me very truthful advice about this Anti-Viral Cocktail called "Amantodine" which has been around for the passed few years. They all advised against it, as one of the side effects that most doctors will not tell you when they are prescribing it to your child, is death. Most of us here in Colorado heard the tragic news reports about the 8 year old boy who died of the flu last week. They did not give any more information. Most of us with small children couldn't help but feel the fear that was emitted over the broadcast. We all questioned it. A perfectly healthy boy, gets the flu and dies 24 hours later? The NP that we dealt with today told me that the 8 year old boy that tragically died from the flu last week, after complaining about a stomach ache, was in fact given this cocktail within the first 24 hours of flu-like symptoms. Well, I was shocked to learn today that he was given this dreadful drug. How come the local news stations don't report this? Are they trying to protect the drug companies? or the doctors? Can't some ambitious reporter acquire this information? It's amazing what you learn 'through the grapevine'.... Several other child deaths were related to this medicine and not the flu per se. Apparently, according to the NP I spoke with today, Amantodine is also prescribed for Parkinson's disease. The side effects that are usually written on the prescription is "dizziness, blurred vision and nausea", the other side effects written in the drug manuals, also include, hallucinations, nightmares, headaches. As my friend and I were discussing, why would anyone give this medicine to a baby and/or a small child? By the way, this drug is only prescribed if you see a doctor within the first 48 hours of flu-like symptoms. My daughter was on day 3 of her symptoms, so the NP could not prescribe it, and advised against it anyway. Because I questioned it, we engaged in a discussion over Amantodine and her words were, "It's far better to sit out the flu, let the virus run its course, keep doing what you're doing with alternating Tylenol and Motrin for fever and keep her hydrated than to mess with this drug...the side effects are worse than the flu".... Yeah, I'd say death is worse than the flu. What disturbs us so much, is 1) how can an MD in good conscience prescribe a drug that has the known side effects as "death" to small children? and 2) why doesn't the drug company take this dangerous drug off the market until it perhaps perfects it's formula or dosage or whatever? Unfortunately, the way these drug companies work is with statistics, if only a small percent die from the drug, it's not enough to stop selling it. Well, this is outrageous! If children are dying from this drug, who by the way were perfectly healthy before hand, they're only weakness was contracting the flu virus, then isn't that enough to be concerned? True, there have been some deaths caused by the flu that were not related to this drug, but were related to the previous existing condition of the child before hand -- in which case, a drug like this would never be given anyway. According to the NP I spoke with, 5 out of the 6 children who died here in Colorado this year had causes related to this drug. Isn't that enough of a statistic in one state to cause alarm? Another disturbing fact: In just 3 days, I have had 2 friends report to me, that they took their small children to the doctor with flu-related symptoms, and in both instances (2 different doctors) the doctors prescribed this medicine without doing a mucus culture to in fact determine if the child in deed had the influenza A virus. This is not only disturbing, but I believe these doctors were in breach of their fiduciary responsibilities as licensed MDs, who are qualified to prescribe drugs. It has always been my understanding that doctors need to examine and test their patients to determine a positive diagnosis before prescribing any medication. Let me also add, that it's true, 100 years ago and more, many people did in fact die from flu, mostly that was due to inadequate care, diet, dehydration and ignorance. Nowadays, we have over the counter medicines like Tylenol and Motrin to relieve flu symptoms, keep down a fever and we know that liquids, liquids and more liquids are "KEY" to recovery and good health. There have been times where my little one would not take any liquids, instead we tricked her into having them through one of those syringes they give you with medicine to measure the dosage. She loved to suck the water out of it, and it became something fun for her. Ice pops, (pedialyte when necessary) or just plain old ice pops and sucking ice for some, is another good ways to keep the little ones hydrated. I am just a concerned mother, I have no degree in medicine, my heart goes out to the families who unnecessarily lost their young children due to this unfortunate travesty. I send this out to all of you who do have young children and ask the rest of you to please pass this on to your circle of friends who do, you might save someone's life. Knowledge is power. Strength & Good Health to all of you, Roxanne
