2 things that you might try for the ant mounds.

One you will find at the market, raw sulfur, " Flores De Sulfura "

(if my memory is correct,) put it around and on the mound and gently

water it in. use it outside of your living area. Rodents don't like

the smell of it either.

It is noxious but not as obnoxious as some of the other things used

as poisions.

 

the other thing is urine. One of the group in Honduras used to pour

urine on the beds and trails that were found in the corrida. They

were gone the next morning. If you use this outside treat the ones

closest to the house first so that the whole bunch doesn't move in.

Well it might not be herbal per se, but what has worked really well with fire ants here was moth balls. I tried the name brand ant killers to no avail- the ants would just move. I tried oatmeal- must have been desperate, but someone told me it would work. It didnt.. Then I used about 5 moth balls, just dropping them on the mound and tapping them gently down. It works.
