Guest guest
When I had reflux, I had it to such a degree that I would vomit up anything I tried to eat or drink, no matter what it was. Very embarassing at times. My wive many times had to clean out the car because I would spew up while driving. I had surgery to make an extra "sphincter" right above my stomach, on my esophagus. Was supposed to be a two hour surgery, I was under for five and a half hours, and lost copious amounts of blood. During the surgery, my wife was asked if I "had my affairs in order". It wasn't until after the surgery that I started researching my condition. The pain, the reflux (pre-surgery), the vomiting (also pre surgery), the constant diareah, the anemia, the malnutrition, etc etc. I was the one that went to the doctor with the idea that it might be celiacs. He had never heard of it (a great statement for the confidence), but looked it up. They ran some blood tests, that came out positive, and did a biopsy of my small intestines. NO FUN AT ALL. Turned out that there were basically no celia in my small intestine. They put me on so many medications, in such intelse levels, that to this day I have a permanent heart murmer because of it. Now, because of a surgery I wouldn't have needed if my Dr were smarter than a hammer, I cannot vomit or burp. If I have the need to vomit, I have to wait it out till it comes out the other end, usually waiting involves writhing on the floor in a fetal position. As for burping, well, lets just say that it is very entertaining when it comes out the other end, especially in church. I have had to modify my diet extrememely, but in a very positive direction. No dairy (will post some interesting things about milk and the small intestines tomarrow morning), no unsprouted grains. Even too much sprouted grains can cause my system to react. Mostly raw, organic veggies and fruit, with some raw organic nuts and sprouts as snacks. I have had an incredible craving for carrots lately. My wife can't keep enough in the house!! I take a special blend of herbal teas, in infusion form. I have posted the ingredients before, but will again in the morning (I am at work now) that help heal my small intestines, ease my digestion, and basically just buffer my system. I also take a version of Dragon Snot every morning, daily doses of TT and PP, and Lemon Egg. Don't know if this answers your questions or not, but hope it helps. Blessings! How did it effect you?? when i first began experiencing the acid reflux i went through several months, nearly a year, of sort of stomach spasms that made what i thought was my liver or gaul bladder knot up into a huge hard knot, extremely painful... would think that something would burst and expected to die... and the only thing that would give relief after hours of this extreme pain, was to force my self to throw up. it would take several hours to be able to force a purge but nothing else helped. this was whether i had eaten or not, and if not, just dry heaves until what fluid was in stomach upchucked. the problem was more violent after eating any dairy especially icecream... cheese not so bad for some reason... , any fatty food, any comercially prepaired sauces, steaks, and sometimes.. many times.. even water could bring it on. it kept getting worse until the acids would belch clear up into my sinus and that was a piece of hell! i was not under any emotional stress, fact i was at the most contented part of my life! retired, enjoying my family and garden etc...had all kinds of tests, tubes with cameras up one end and down the other.. couldn't find anything wrong. can't help but be curious what it was. Drs just gave up on me.. it was after about a year of this going on that i had a really bad attack of RA in my hands and test showed positive. one of the drs told me that Ra could attack any part or organ of the body so i wondered if that may have been what was happening, but it seems like there would have been some physical evidence of inflamation in the area... still curious.. ... love... granny lee - John Ybarra herbal remedies Thursday, November 06, 2003 3:45 PM Re: [herbal remedies] sprouted grains and gluten intolerance question Hi Kelli. I have been diagnosed with Celiac's Disease. It is a condition brought about, among other things, by "gluten intolerance". I am allergic to it. It has caused the celia of my small intestines to be all but destroyed. It took time to happen, but I wasn't diagnosed until a couple of years ago, and have the "intolerance" since I was a child (I am 41 now). I have had surgery to help with some of the more difficult symptoms, and have had to modify my lifestyle drastically, but for the better. If your child is gluten intolerant, please don't hesitate to modify whatever you need to in order to prevent it from becoming something worse in the future. She may not like it at first, but the end results will be worth it. I have found that, for myself, sprouted grains are tolerable, as long as taken in moderation. I LOVE sprouted Winter Wheat and Red Wheat, with a little alfafa mixed in!! Makes a great mid-day snack, very sweet and chewy. Keep in mind that if the damage has been done to the small intestines already, then milk is a definite no-no! Stay away from all milk products. From my readings, it appears as if there is something in milk that our small intestines "re-create" into something useful, but if our intestines are compromised, then the enzyme (?) is not changed, and is a psychotopic (?), and not healthy at all. I will dig out my papers, and post a better relating of this later. Just some thoughts off the top of my head. JohnKelli Bever <kelli wrote: Hi there,I'm hoping that some of you out there may be able topoint me at some data on the subject of "gluten intolerance"and the possible relation to enzyme inhibitors in unsproutedgrains. First, a little background of my question...3 1/2 yrs ago my daughter and I were diagnosed as "glutenintolerant" by our natural health care practitioner via asaliva test. Going off gluten at that time made a HUGE difference for me in my digestion - all grumbling, gasypains disappeard, and I had thought they were NORMAL fordigestion! Now that I've got the data from Doc's tape onenzyme inhibitors, I'm wondering if my situation was really anything to do with gluten, or if it was reallythe enzyme inhibitors.I've asked my practitioner about the saliva test, and thenew blood test that they use, and both only test for anantibody reaction to the gluten protein. This doesn'texplain their theory they tell the "gluten intolerant"which is that the body's reaction to the undigested proteinactually causes the stripping of the digestive lining sothat the silia (sp?) which produce the digestive enzymesare destroyed, opening the body up to all sorts of harmfulside effects (parasites, candida, etc). It seems to methat this environment could also be created by enzymeinhibitors.I have been eating the occasional sprouted grain breadover the last couple months and do not experience any ofthe gasy digestion pains that I used to on the grain/carbodiet I used to have.Anyway, I am curious if even sprouted grains are reallyan extreme hazard for me and my daughter. I can go eitherway on this, diet-wise, but she's only 9 and I'd like togently steer her in the right direction without changingtracks too many times.Do any of you wonderful people know anything about thisor can you point me at any web sites/books/etc for informationon this??Thanks and sorry this is such a long post!!KelliFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Guest guest
Thanks, Granny. It has been a tough recovery. My Dr at the time told me it would be between three and five years to recover. It's been about two years now, and feel so much better than they said I should be, since I gave up the pharmeceuticals and went natural. Here is a link (hope it works) to an info site for Celiacs........................ http://www.celiac.com/cgi-bin/webc.cgi/st_prod.html?p_prodid=77 & p_catid=5 & sid=91hH9H0lXEqU5B5-33103028499.9c Here's what is in my special tea: Nettle leaf (recommended for helping repair the small intestines) alfafa agrimony lady's mantle peppermint valerian plantain marshmallow To this I add freshly ground flax seed. Here is something I read in a book called "Herbal Perscriptions for Common Health Problems": "The protiens in wheat and milk are psychoactive-they act much the same way as opiate drugs do. In people with healthy intestines, these protiens are broken down into amino acids, but in people with celiacs, they pass through the intestines in their psychoactive state." It has been linked to hyperactivity, bipolar disorder, depression, panic attacks, and schizophrenia. Hope this helps. Guest guest
You are very welcome, Wendy! I personally believe that we go through the things we do, the tough times and such, so that when we are "restored", we can help others. I would be remiss in my responsibility to myself and my beliefs if I did not help whenever I can.
