Guest guest
I know you'll get better clinical advice on drug withdrawal, and lots of herbal suggestions, Viv, but I recommend that in adition to herbs, and such, you try to start the day with a good meal with healthy protein and complex carbohydrates.. make sure you get at least some aerobic excercise each day, even if it's just a brisk walk, in nature, if at all possible. Are you getting enough sleep? Are the people you hang around with or work with positive in outlook? If not, try to wean yourself from conversation with them, or change the subject to positive things. Is your work satisfying, and are you doing things you love? Try to set some goals and start with baby steps to be the person you really want to be, and to express yourself to others. If you find you are trapped in limiting circumstances maybe you could take small breaks for a walk, meditation, reading something uplifting, listening to music that makes you feel good. I have enjoyed the benfits of Valerian, Passion Flower, 5htp, Choline, good vitamins.. (probably you can get better vitamins from the recipes in the file section, here! Also, raw eggs probably have a lot of choline and lecithin, which I believe is important for " good " brain chemicals) Okay, I'll let the experts take over, just wanted to respond with things that have helped me, so far.. I think it's great you are trying to become independent of medication. (I imagine you can get some good advice about the menopause from others with personal experience, here : ) I wonder if Maca root might be good for that, along with being a bit stimulating? I think it might work better for you than ginseng? I think it tones and balances the reproductive system, and is an adaptogen/tonic. Good luck on your healing journey! Don't like them, don't trust them. Unfortunately, about 4 yrs. ago, a situation arose where everything was so overwhelming ( mother's alzheimer ) that I was diagnosed with clinical depression. So, I have been on antidepressants ever since. Last drs. visit was 3 yrs. ago.Doctor doesn't seem to be of any help as to getting off of them and since I'm 54, and now have the menopause thing, I have bought over the counter herbal tabs that have helped. I also take garlic and ginseng. I just purchased a book on 5-HTP. I know I just can't stop taking the antideppressant cold so would like some advice and also what to take in it's place. I have read all kinds of things on mixing and taking different things so am skeptical. Today is day 1 for me as far as reducing my dosage by 1/2. Any help would be greatly appreciated I hope in the future, I can learn alot from the group. Thanks, Viv
