Guest guest
Is there anything that the Federal Death Agency doesn't complain about? For the most part, Wild Ginger is very diaphoretic. It makes you sweat. It makes secretions flow. Not just sweating from the skin but tears flow, sinuses flow etc... Used in moderation 99% of herbs are very safe and beneficial. There are a few that are down right gnarly. However, the way the FDA tests herbs is by extracting one single constituent and then injecting a gallon of it into some poor mouse. "There see, we knew this plant was dangerous. Just look at that poor mousies liver will ya!" This is one of the reasons I am against standardization of herbs. You cannot improve on what the creator has already provided. All that will do is detract from the whole and then you have lost the synergy of the plant. HTH, Don Quai PS I would have no qualms about using this herb if you use it in moderation. It can be used just like regular ginger (which is also diaphoretic). - Scott Hales herbal remedies Thursday, October 16, 2003 4:21 PM [herbal remedies] wild ginger? Has anyone heard of wild ginger? The FDA is complaining that it has no control over the use of the use of dangerous herbs, again.. this one, because it contains aristolochic acid, which can damage the liver, apparently. Is this an herb that is commonly used? In a search on Google, I saw that it is in a Cayce formula, and is used in some chinese and American remedies. Guest guest
I've used wild ginger before. I candied some roots and used them to flavor home made ice cream. They have a bit of a sassafras type of smell to the leaves. I really enjoyed just munching on little bits of the roots after the had been candied and chewed a few while making the ice cream too. I will tell you that when my mother tried one it disagreed with her, they are very strong. It made her feel sick to her stomach, that said my father and I enjoyed them, as did my two children, though all of us in small doses as it really is a very strong flavor. I want to gather more of it and powder it to use as a spice. I got my information about it from Peterson's guide to edible wild plants (can't remember the exact name). Hope this helps, Tee - Scott Hales herbal remedies Thursday, October 16, 2003 9:21 AM [herbal remedies] wild ginger? Has anyone heard of wild ginger?
