If you want to make say custard, you can sweeten with maple (I make soy custard). For apple crumble you can add the rice syrup to the cooked apples. For the crumble topping I use whole wheat flour, raw rolled oats and lots of shredded coconut for sweetness then you don't need any sugar at all. You can sweeten herbal teas with either as well.
