Guest guest
Hi Leah, When you make up the TT, it will be a 'mash' texture very similar to fine cottage cheese with bits of everything in suspension. As it sits, there will be some separation. If you want to use it at that stage, use a spoon - not a dropper. The best way is to keep it in a glass bottle. Shake it daily and at the end of 2 weeks strain or press it to get the juice out. What you do with the mash is up to you after that. It's best not to let any metals other than stainless steel in it as they can contaminate and ruin the tonic. What you should end up with is a bottle of liquid that's a light tan color. When it sits, this will separate into the color of the ACV in the recipe and at the bottom will be a light tan sediment. You should shake it up before taking it which will make the liquid in the bottle turn back to the tan color. Hope that's a help! Mine is the consistency of wet cottage cheese. I have blended it and blended it and it doesn't seem to get any smoother to get in a dropper. > > thanks, Leah > - > John Ybarra > herbal remedies > Wednesday, October 08, 2003 9:31 AM > Re: [herbal remedies] Total Tonic > > > Fresh is always best. I keep ours in the fridge, but only because it is easier to take cold. For maintanance, we take one dropperfull three times a day. Lately, I've been taking three droppers three times a day, because of swollen glands in my throat. It is taking care of it much faster than any perscription! > > John
Guest guest
Leah, did you strain it through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer first? The left over solids make a great salad addition. Guest guest
I just made it yesterday so I thought I was suppose to eat it from a spoon. lol I will let it sit for 2 weeks then strain it. I am looking for a fine mesh strainer to use. Where do I find a strainer? I looked at a rice press but wouldn't the solid come through the holes with the liquid? This is my first attempt to making this or anything. Also where do I find those brown tincture bottles at? I will use the left overs for my salad! What a great idea. thanks for the help, Leah - John Ybarra herbal remedies Saturday, October 11, 2003 10:03 AM Re: [herbal remedies] Just made Total Tonic Leah, did you strain it through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer first? Guest guest
Leah, try the small private drugstores... they sometimes have them... I use a regular kitchen strainer and my wooden spoon to press out my herbs.. or pour thru cheese cloth and squeeze. Guest guest
The strainer we use is actually a washable coffee filter. It is very fine mesh stainless steel. It is not as good as using a cheesecloth, but takes care of most solids. I buy ours at the local grocery store. Let us know what you think of the Total Tonic. It's got quite a kick!!
