canola oil - why is it still being pushed?

If you all notice..... Doc has never endorsed canola.... but UDO and certified organic virgin cold pressed olive oil.... You have never heard him "talk canola"

Canola oil is definitely not my favorite. At one time its ancestor, rapeseed, was used widely as an insecticide. Canola is simply a highly bred form ofrapeseed that will grow in colder climates. It is not natural at all.

[herbal remedies] Re: canola oil - why is it still being pushed?

I'm glad someone started this thread ...

I keep wondering why canola oil and products containing it are still

being pushed by whole food/natural food stores? Any thoughts on that?

Thanks,

CheriB

And I never will endorse it.

Canada Oil or Can O la Oil is nothing but rape seed oil and I place it in the same category as Cotton Seed Oil or Linseed Oil.

It is not a food. It is a lubricant or a wood or leather conditioner.

Love,

Doc

PS. You can do your own research on the net on this. There are plenty of sites out there that will give you the straight skinny on this. ;o)

Yeah but Cheri,

Ya know it is "organic" LOL ;o)

Doc

PS. The only thing I use "Healthfood Stores" for, is for the certified organic produce, and that's when my co-op isn't delivering or I'm running low till the co-op delivers. I don't know about the Pepsi, but have you noticed that most of 'em sell wine and beer??? They also sell a lot of "Non-organic" stuff as well. They've definitely been infiltrated by the giant pharmaceuticals.

[herbal remedies] Re: canola oil - why is it still being pushed?

I am just mystified that seemingly knowledgeable people in the wholefoods/health foods stores are still stocking Canola and allowingpeople to walk out the store with it. I noticed the give-awaymagazines at those stores still tout Canola in their ads, recipes andarticles. Kind of ruins their credibility. Seems like they might as well stock Pepsi in aluminum cans and whitesugar in 25 pound bags ... OK, OK, OK,

Bad analogy, bad Doc ;o)

Let's just keep the comparison of the Canola Oil to the Cotton Seed Oil - LOL.

Whereas you can "cold" press Cotton Seed Oil, it still does not make it a food fit for human consumption. This holds true as well for Canola Oil.

Actually, Linseed used in industry, and Flax Oil used for nutrition are not the same thing, even though they come from the same Flax Seed source. Linseed is hot pressed. The seeds have gone through a rancid bio-chemical process that renders it useless to nutrition. Flax Seed Oil on the other hand, when "cold" pressed, prepared correctly and stored correctly is extremely beneficial due to its Omega 3,6,9 content. The reason I promote UDO's Oil (and no, I have no stock in the company ;o), is because it is the only source I know of that never touches plastic, and comes from the freshest certified organic sources. I know of no other Flax Oil manufacturers that store their oils in brown glass bottles only. Flax Seeds, and Oils are very delicate and tempermental, and have a very short shelf life. It has to be made from the freshest flax sources, or it will be compromised. Flax seeds are one of the few seeds that have very little enzyme inhibitors in them and can spoil quickly.

I apologize for any confusion generated, and I hope this corrects and answers all ;o)

Love,

Doc

I thought you endorsed Flax Seed oil?http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/FlaxJen
