Guest guest
I am currently attempting to dry a number of trays of black walnuts on a screened in porch, with the intent of removing the hulls when the nuts are dry. I have noticed a few fruit fly sized insects over the trays. I am concerned that these could be a harbinger of an impending infestation which may compromise the usefulness of the hulls for making tinctures. I would appreciate hearing from any members who are experienced in this area regarding whether this may, infact, be something which I must be concerned about, potential corrective action if required, a1nd, any other tips which may be of value in this effort. Thanks, Harasts
Guest guest
Hi Harasts, I think I would just put a light layer of cheese cloth over the walnuts to keep the bugs off and just turn it a couple of times per day. I have a question for you. When you dry the walnut hulls do they still need to be attached to the walnut or can you remove them and dry them seperately. I have a large walnut tree near my booth at this show and I think there are some falling but I am not farmiliar with collecting walnuts as I live in the desert. Any help is appreciated.
