I am new to this group. The last nine months I am suddenly struck with

severe knee pain. The Dr says I have worn out the cartilage but I had

no for warning. Aside from a total knee replacement (which is what

dr's are suggesting, does anyone have any alternotives I might try?

I've met people who were scheduled for knee replacement surgery cancel their

appointments once they started doing the stretching exercise explained in

the Pete Egoscue book " Pain Free " . What is happening is that the wrong

muscles are being used to support your knees, hence the pain. Once you

train your body through these simple stretches to start using the correct

muscles again, the pain stops. Even though doctors will tell you that the

cartilage is destroyed, or ligaments torn, that it's bone on bone, or

whatever, using the correct muscles takes care of all support issues and

thereby relieves pain. That book will explain everything.

My mother used 1 tsp gelatine in warm water per day and her knees that

were really painful because of worn out cartilidge, soon became almost

pain free.

Apparently gelatine is the product that glaucosamine is derived from,

but it is so much more cheaper using the gelatine.

all the best

Hi Dinah,

I would suggest you do yoga. More specifically, Hatha Yoga.

I was diagnosed with knee problems in school and the hospital said it

disappear after one year. That was 13 years ago and nothing changed.

Find a good yoga master, and let him/her observe your progress. A good

instructor will take you a long way. Hope you get well.

Cheer,

RoK

Hi Dinah,

Most unexplained knee pains are usually ankle disorietation that

comes from; Walking with the feet turned outwards,Walking or running

down steep hills,Sport with high traction or spiked shoes, where the

foot stops and the body weight still goes forward.

The end result is that the shin bone moves forward over the ankle

joint causing an outward rotation of the leg, which then puts severe

strain on the hip and especially the knee joint causing it to run out

of true.

You need to realign the structure of the body and reposition the

ankle joint. An holistic Osteopath or Chiropractor can do this, or

contact me and I can email you, or anyone else, exercises to do this,

but it takes longer with the exercises. The exercises are

complimentary.

Hi Dinah! Dede here!

I had knee surgery in January - for removal of a piece of cartilage

that had broken loose and was causing excruciating pain (like someone

was stabbing an ice up my femur!) First time pain has made me feel

nauseous.

Arthoscopically, the removed that " loose body " (as they called it)

and cleaned up frayed areas of my patella and femur. About two weeks

after I started six weeks of physical therapy. Things felt great -

after four months the doc released me saying " don't over do it " . I

went right home, started gardening and ... yep, over did it.

I started on the glucosamine/chondrointin stuff before surgery and

never felt anything different. Probably because I did not take it

consistently three times a day - or maybe the stuff I took wasn't

some of the " good stuff " , which is really expensive.

I got on the net and found someone who each morning stirred a packet

of Knox Gelatin (found in the grocery store next to Jello) in about 4

ounces of orange juice - she said her knee was better in 24 hours.

I thought " what the heck? " Plus, it's really inexpensive. So I

toodled on down and got some Knox Gelatin. Next morning I mixed it

in orange juice and drank it. The following morning when I woke up I

had NO pain! Seriously! I continue taking it to this day.

If I am more active than usual I take it also in the evening (some

people have to take it twice a day for it to work on them).

I've also started yoga (for seniors) - it's Hatha. After two

sessions my knee feels stronger. I was very hesitant about yoga

because the physical therapist said I couldn't do it. But I'd run

out of things interesting ... I can't treadmill any more. I've

learned yoga is a very healing practice.

Any way, try the Knox Gelatin. I works for a lot of people. If it

doesn't work for you, you can make some Tomato Aspic or something out

of it. But try at least 4 doses before you give up.
