Guest guest
A lot of women in perimenopause and menopause also experience Hypothyroidism since hormonal, neurotransmitter and chemical changes impact the entire endocrine system so profoundly. Unfortunately, Hypothyroidism often goes undiagnosed because the symptoms mimic those of perimenopause (estrogen dominance). And, many women think that they're too young to experience that! Think again: I have women in my groups in their mid 30's already noticing " the change " . Another challenge is that a standard blood draw for thyroid function usually comes back " within the normal range " , which is also true for testing estrogens. The " normal range " is just entirely too broad. If you want/need an accurate read on your thyroid function, saliva testing is the way to go. Still, it's important that because the symptoms can be similar, we don't just assume that going through perimenopause or we're estrogen dominant means we have Hypothyroidism! Michelle http://www.HolisticMenopause.com I would suggest that you visit/join the hyporthyroid group, and see if any of your symptoms resonate with the stories from the other women. Guest guest
Is there a kit you can purchase to get a saliva test? I am a 45 year old woman with thinning hair and I understand that it could be a sign of thyroid problems. Marguerite
Guest guest
Basc thyroid level is a blood test, which means you have to convince your Dr. to run the test. If that is not normal, they can do a test through nuclear medicine that sees how the thyroid is working. Guest guest
There are lots of places on the internet to find saliva test kits. My favorite is on Dr. John Lee's site, here: http://www.johnleemd.com/ Michelle
Guest guest
I would have to disagree here. Blood thryoid tests are inaccurate at best. Most effective and accurate are saliva tests. However most medical doctors will not use or do not know about saliva test. Guest guest
I'm with you Jenny. A woman can have every single symptom of hypothyroidism and still have a blood test come back " within the normal range " . Blood tests for estrogen are the same. Very simply, " the normal range " is just entirely too broad. Saliva testing is the way to go. Michelle Jenny wrote: I would have to disagree here. Guest guest
Go and buy the Fat Flush Plan book by Ann Louise Gittleman. You can turn this around and be healthy.
