Supplementing antibiotic therapy

Hello all!

I have just started on three weeks (!) of antibiotics for Lyme Disease. I am not

a big fan of

antibiotics, but am willing to do this in order to rid myself of this bacteria,

which has been a

menace to my life.

I will definitely be taking a probiotic supplement (Primal Defense).

But what I really want to know is how to thoroughly flush my system from the

bacteria, as it

dies off. Are there liver and kidney supplements/herbs that can help with this?

Also, how can

I be sure to kill off the bacteria, rather than just suppress it? I plan to

remain free of this from

here on out, so I will do whatever it takes.

I would love to hear others' experiences.

Thank you so much for your answers! Maura

Hi Maura! This will be just an add on to your post. I'm sure lots of our

knowledgeable

members will chime in on the specifics of what you are requesting.

As a Lyme Disease patient - actually, I want to say I'm a person who *used* to

have Lyme

Disease as I don't think it affects me at all anymore - I wanted to check to see

if you knew

about treating this holistically.

My holistic doctor treats Lyme Disease with a combo of dietary

changes/restrictions,

herbs, supplements, and a homeopathic remedy or two. I never took antibiotics,

and I was

well in a few months after apparently suffering from LD for two years. More

importantly,

I've remained well since. I've spoken with others who have gone the traditional

route, and

a lot remain closer to illness than wellness. Though, I definitely don't want to

scare you or

doom you into thinking that. I do know of a woman who was diagnosed immediately

after

a tick bite, received IV antibiotics, I believe, and got well. She takes good

care of herself

also, though.

I'm in the Chicago area and would be glad to give you my doctor's name if you

happen to

be near here. There are well-versed holistic doctors who treat LD in other

areas, too, but I

don't have any specific names. I would think you could call around and ask if

and how they

treat LD. You also could post here, and perhaps someone would have a

recommendation.

My doctor recommended a colleague in the NorthEast section of the U.S. to help a

friend

of mine. If you need that, let me know, and I'll see if I still have that info

on hand.

Take care,

Cindy

Thank you, Cindy, I truly appreciate your answer.

I do plan to follow my antibiotic therapy with an aggressive holistic approach,

since I have

heard many stories of Lyme that never truly " went away. " My mother, in fact, was

mistakenly

diagnosed wtih MS (and heavily medicated because of it), only to find out later

that it was

Lyme Disease.

I am suspicious of antibiotics, however, it was my personal holistic physician

who

recommended them to me. So, I have chosen to trust her with this. (She is

working with me

on other issues, and is always ready to try the alternative approach first.)

I would love to hear more about the methods that you used.

Mostly, I am truly happy to hear that you have been cured.

With my warmest wishes - Maura

One thing we learned in our class is that it does

spread to family members. Testing is often inaccurate.

So treatment of the whole family is often performed to

stop it from spreading.

You're welcome, Maura; I'm glad you will be able to follow up the regular

treatment with a holistic treatment. I, too, hear of too many people who

only use the traditional, heavy antibiotic use approach, and those poor

people are so ill. It's tragic. As I understand it, you are never cured,

but I have no symptoms that I know of so that will do!

That's interesting about your mother's misdiagnosis. I think a lot of

doctors don't think to look for Lyme Disease. I went for two years not

feeling well - and seeing traditional doctors - before finding this

holistic doctor. He immediately realized it was Lyme.

My doctor's approach is tailored to each individual. I would guess that

he probably relies on certain things as a staple, but exactly what I

took wouldn't be the same as what would work for someone else.

I can't even remember what all I took. It would change as I moved

along in treatment.

I remember high dose vitamin E along with other supplements and

herbs. I also remember most of the dietary restrictions - no sugar or

fake sugar or even fruit juice, no alcohol, no smoking or being around

any secondhand smoke, no caffeine. There may have been a couple

other things, but that's what I remember at the moment.

Good luck in your treatment; I'm sure you'll do well with the care

of a holistic physician,

Cindy

Dear Cindy,

Would you still be willing to let me know your doctor's name? I like the sound

of his

approach, and he may be able to recommend someone in the New York City area.

Thanks!

Maura - I was thinking about this and decided it might not be a good idea. He is

so

devoted to his current patients that he stays very busy. He even gives up time

off and his

lunch hours if you are his patient and need something. If I was going to be in

there, I'd be

glad to ask, but, thankfully, I haven't needed anything in a while!

I was trying to find the doctor he recommended out east for a friend, but I

apparently

didn't hang onto that. I'm going to ask my friend if she kept the info, and, if

so, I'll let you

know.

I would think, in your area, there would be a lot of talented holistic

individuals. My

recommendation would be to go to a great, independent health food store - not a

place

like GNC - and see if they have any recommendations for exactly what you're

looking for.

Around here, that is where I get good info. They know of the good docs around

and

actually had talked about my doctor long before I ended up needing him.

Hope this helps at all; good luck on your treatment,

Cindy
