Guest guest
Hi, I am looking for some feedback on taking bioidentical progesterone for symptoms of perimenopause. I recently got the results of a hormone test, and my doctor/naturopath is recommending natural progesterone in a caplet form. I am only to take it on certain days. When I asked about a cream form, she said it wouldn't be effective for my debilitating anxiety and foggy thinking. Can anyone offer me some guidance or feeback. I'm a little hesitant about the caplet. I have never heard of it. Thank you very much. Marianne
Guest guest
Anthing that has been made into a caplet or tablet has added ingredients to make it hold form and there is a definite loss of effectiveness/potentcy. You can find other forms of necessary hormones via liquids, capsules, etc. Progesterone is necessary in menopause so don't discount the need, just find a different source. I use Biofeedback to balance my hormones. Guest guest
Hi Marianne - I'm taking a capsule specially compounded for me that contains the hormones I need in the amounts I need. I feel a lot better ince starting them about a month ago. No hot flashes (yay!), no mood swings, etc., and no side effects that I can see. It doesn't contain just progesterone but a mix of what I need. These are compounded by a place in Arizona that specializes in this. As I understand it, the wife of the man who started this had to have a hysterectomy very early in life so he devoted himself to finding a safe alternative for her symptoms. Let me know if you want the name of the place, and I'll get it for you. My doctor - a Family Nurse Practitioner actually - ordered them for me, based on the results of a hormone test. I would think your doctor could do the same. I used a cream before, but it didn't seem to help as much plus I started feeling worse on it and stopped using it. Guest guest
Hi all, I've been working with women in peri and menopause for 4 years. I only recommend one progesterone cream ~ Organic Excellence (no, it's not an MLM) for 2 simple reasons. 1) Totally pure, organic ingredients. 2) It works for me and for every single woman I've shared it with. Please visit the links page of my web site at: http://tinyurl.com/3437jg to learn more about OE. Be sure to order the cream WITHOUT phytoestrogens. (The jar lasts longer) If you need more info, I'm always happy to be of support. Michelle http://www.HolisticMenopause.com
Guest guest
The challenge with compounding pharmacies is simply that in perimenopause, your hormones are constantly fluctuating. Keeping up with exactly what your body needs at any given time can become time consuming and very expensive. I'm all for keeping it easy - including on the pocketbook! A high quality, chemical free, USP progesterone cream will adapt to the changing needs of your body. The results are the same with a fraction of the effort and cost. Guest guest
Hi Ramona - It's a compounding pharmacy in Arizona that I am using. My doctor is local. (I live near Chicago.) She just orders this custom-blended capsule for me from the pharmacy in Scottsdale, AZ, USA. If you want the specific name or phone number for the pharmacy, e-mail me privately. I'll be glad to post it on list, but I'm not sure if that's okay or not. Guest guest
Remember that anything you take in a caplet will need to pass through your liver before it can get to your bloodstream. This leaves about 10% of the desired ingredient after the first-pass. If you take progesterone as a caplet, you will need a prescription much stronger than with a transdermal cream. For instance, Prometrium is prescribed as 200mg progesterone. The dose for a transdermal cream is about 15mg progesterone. Could make a big difference when you are price shopping!! If you have doubts about transdermal effectiveness, try this experiment: Cut a clove of garlic in half. Rub it on the bottom of your foot. How long does it take for you to taste garlic in your mouth? Better yet, have your doctor/naturopath do this experiment! Guest guest
I have heard great things about natural progesterone cream and in no way want to take away from women who benefit from it. And I want to share my own menopause experience, which had nothing to do with hormonal products. Age 49 found me utterly exhausted and so muddle-headed that I couldn't even find ordinary words. Like fridge. It would become " Eh, the cold thing with the food in it. " My son was a teenager at the time and he asked me once: " Mother, who will finish your sentences when I leave home? " At the time I didn't know anything about adrenal exhaustion or perimenopause in general. I associated menopause with the cessation of menses, and periods were still happening and regular. At one point I bled to severe anemia. Acupuncture fixed that. Vitamins an minerals helped a bit, but I still mainly dragged myself through life. All my meno-misery went away after a friend turned me on to a wild whole food. I guess the stuff fed the glands, and my body produced whatever hormones it needed from the now abundant raw materials. Don't tweak, nourish. It's a concept you can't go wrong with. Feed your body the raw materials and let it figure out the intricate details. No matter what you do for hormone support, at this time in your life you need top-notch whole nutrition more than ever. Just some food for thought. Guest guest
Hey Ien, I love your story and it's such a common one that it will help many. Adrenal exhaustion is so common for us midlife women as the entire endocrine system is out-of-whack. Your approach certainly worked for you and it totally makes sense. Give the body what it needs and balance/healing occurs. Consuming whole foods is essential as is eliminating things like sugar, stimulants, processed foods, white flour, etc. I've been completely organic and mostly raw for the last 6 months now and at 51, I feel better than I have in years! Still, the benefits of USP progesterone cream are far reaching. And, it's simple to use with fast results. Let's face it, most people want the biggest bang for the least effort. IMO, " tweaking " at midlife is what it's all about (and not only physically!) Michelle Ien wrote: Don't tweak, nourish. It's a concept you can't go wrong with.
