Hi ~

 

I'm wondering if anyone might have advice on alternative methods for

depression and anxiety. I have suffered on and off for some time now,

and do not like prescrition medication. Any suggestions would be

greatly appreciated. This is a horrible way to live.

Stress Reduction via Biofeedback. Stress reduction is

non-invasive and you do not have to take supplements

to obtain benefits. When the body is stressed, and you

may not even realize how stressed it is, it can

manifest in depression, insomnia, weight gain or loss,

anxiety etc. When the body is stressed it will do all

sorts of weird things and look like a lot of other

diseases etc. When you eliminate the stressor(s), the

body heals itself and you will feel alot better.

I've been feeling pretty cruddy myself lately. It helps to get out and do

things. I've been trying to spend some more time with my best friend and I've

gotten in touch with some old friends from high school lately. If I have

nothing else, I just get outside and walk for a bit. Things just seem to feel

worse when I'm sitting around the house (although it is so easy to sit around

all day without realizing it).

Also, a friend of mine suggested that I try doing something new or difficult

that will feel like an accomplishment when I complete it. I'm going to some job

related training for two months that should make me a much better photographer

here soon. Hopefully that will be enough of an accomplishment for me.

Hello Dear Depressed Person,

 

I am so sorry for you, I too suffered from depression during my

adolescent years.

 

I also experience extreme anxiety when I have to testify, fly, have

dental work, or blood drawn. My doctor prescribes Valium to me to be

taken only during these events. I frequently have to give testimony

in court, and it makes me so nervous that I almost faint. Valium

smooths everything over and I can do what I have to do. One

prescription refill lasts me about 5 years, but it makes all the

difference during these anxious times.

 

Depression and anxiety are always caused by an imbalance of the brain

chemicals: (listed in order of importance) 1-GABA, 2-Serotonin,

3-dopamine, (and of lesser importance to depression) Acetylcholine,

Ephinephrin, and Adrenaline along with several others not mentioned

herein.

 

These imbalances can be chronic, and of long standing, or can be

brought on in an instant, such as the fight or flight response, a

mother protecting her offspring, orgasm/ejaculation, birth, etc.

Brain chemical levels are in constant flux, never static, however, the

depressed person usually has a lower than " normal " level of GABA, and

or Serotonin.

 

If I were chronically depressed and anxious, I would supplement my

brain with 100-500mg of GABA several times a day, and 500-2000mg of

Tryptophan, or 5Htp a couple of hours before bedtime. Along with a

healthy diet, a good multi vit/min/amino supplement should provide the

co-factors needed for neurotransmitter and hormonal conversions. If

this does not alleviate your depression, post again, there are other

paths to explore.

First of all, congratulations for looking into alternatives rather

than go the Prozac route! There is lots that can be done.

 

One of the best things for depression, and one of the hardest,

is exercise.

 

Author Kathleen Norris in " The Cloister Walk " describes her

battle with depression. She says her prescription was " Exercise

and spiritual guidance " .

I realize that is easier said than done when you feel so exhausted

that it is a chore to put on your shoes.

 

Anxiety can be caused by adrenal exhaustion, which of course

would make you feel tired and depressed too.

 

I have a few tricks for you to look into.

 

 

Join Flylady.

This wonderful person has waged her own battle with depression.

Read some of her old essays on the website.

No matter how you feel, you can do anything for 15 minutes.

Life is better when you are clean and not surrounded by

dirt and clutter. Lots of good stuff and it is all free.

St John's wort works for many people with mild to medium depression.

Do consult a doctor if you are on prescription medication, and avoid

over-exposure to sunlight.

as well as anxiety. Your local acupuncturist should know which would be best for

I was amazed that someone actually saw the relevance of taking a prescribed

medication... " HURRAY! " I AM REALLY HAPPY TO HEAR THAT HTERE AREPEOPLE OUT

THERE THAT " do realize " THAT THE MEDS. PRESCRIBED DO HELP.... Thank you, but

with the different " natural " remedies...seriously ...and just my opinion

mind you... I don't find it a major issue to take prescribed meds....they

have changed my world and honestly as much as some will say see the FDA does

have you...I can afford to take My meds because I have insurance..

realistically I don't know of anyone who really can especially if you have

to go to possibly 5 different natural items for the same thing the

prescribed ones do and I " CAN " ATTEST THAT THE prescribed ones do work...

anyway my main point was to say thank you for being " real " ...thank you

This is just my opinion but seriously, natural is great, but ....who can

afford to do all this mixing matching...and you are doing the same trial and

error you do with " prescribed meds " .....Just curious as to how some people

manage... I have gone to stores for natural and health food....my goodness..

I could seriously go just a broke....if it is so much better why are the so

called knowledgeable ones trying to make a good buck just as much as the

ones that 'prescribe meds " ...just a thought...thank you

One of the things I love about the type of Biofeedback

I do is that I can test supplements for compatibility

with a client. If it's in the test matrix I know it's

a quality product and then I know which product to

suggest to a client. Because I already know it is ok

for this person, there isn't a question of " What If? " .

I seldom will suggest a supplement that isn't in the

matrix as I don't know how it will affect the client.

Reactivity, possible allergic response etc are already

addressed.

Hi, Having read all the answers to the original post it is clear that

the answers address themselves to treating symptoms. In my opinion

it is necessary to treat the cause.

Assuming there is nothing pathalogical causing cranial pressure, then

the answer lies in structural imbalance of the body or is allergy

based or a combination of both.

I have discussed structure governs function before, so won't repeat

it, if anyone would like a comlimentary structural balance excercise

If it's allergy based, the safest way to check is by applied

kinesoilogy and do natural testing.

Control these factors and you will be bright eyed and bushy tailed.

Dear Chris : Just a simple response to your mention of mixing and matching,you

talked about.

 

There is no need for that experimentation and apothecary's role if you are quite

careful about symptoms,diagnosis and alternative natural remedies.

 

Most of the times,believe me when I say, wrong prescriptions( often guniea-pig

ventures ) and trial and error dosages create health problems rather than

provide cure.

 

You just may not believe this statement ,but it is 100 percent factually

accurate.

i have started following the nourshing traditions cookbook and the companion

book called the fourfold path to healing. i take cod liver oil in the amounts

recommended in the companion book, and my moods and depression have lifted. i

highly recommend it! read through the research in both these books on the cod

liver oil and other natural animal fats and see what you think.

That is what more people need in the natural and medical fields.....thank

you for your opinion and I do wholeheartedly agree with that route as it is

the same route my therapist (prsctitioner) takes...I have just been put on

lamictal for bi polar ...fearing it would clash with strattera and gabentin.

......I asked her riohgt out as I do take supplemnents also...black root

kohosh, omega etc.....but she assured me it would work great together and

she was right.. I am on 4 possibly 5 prescribed meds. They work great

together I have never had such a clear head and actually common sense things

do fall into place...thank you for your honesty and have a great weekend..

do you have any suggestions for keeping the memory frame in good working

order ? I HAVE IN MY FAMILY HOSTORY I INHERETED SOEWM PRETTY BAD ARTHRITIS

AND dimensia is in there too....thankl you very much,

Hi well I do quite a bit of research and practice the art of healing ,

my research centers around the teachings and study of the Edgar cayce

material , with added principles where appropriate.we have thousands

Hi to you too!

 

I don't want to say that this is the whole remedy, but it will help if

you go through a mental list of all the people with whom you are

connected, one at a time, and determine what you can do for them.

 

Doing this will alleviate any tendency toward depression, and will also

attract the partner or mate that you would like to invite.

 

Another thing is that there are details you haven't been attending to.

Find out what those are and handle them, then you will be at ease.

Other things to know about depression is that you are

bright, sensitive and spiritually evolved. That makes it very

hard to function in the 3rd dimension, in a world filled with daily

violence, fear, deceit, wars, etc. It is enough to depress anyone.

Add to that the stress and pressure of school, work, family and

life and the expectations placed on all of us.

So:

1)Remove yourself from some of the things that disturb you. TV,

newspapers, some people, etc.

No alcohol, drugs or caffeine.

2)Depression is generally thought to be a chemical imbalance in

the brain. This is partly true.

Eat better foods, organic is best, and detox the body. Get a

vegatable juicer and drink vegetable juices daily. When you have

one, I can send you a formula. Avoid chemicals and preservatives in

food whenever possible.

Soft drinks are bad for you, esp. diet stuff.

Aspertaine, under many names, and then sucalose,

are to be totally avoided. They are chemical poisons and cause

serious depression.

No microwares-they destroy the life force energy of food. Get a good

vitamin/mineral supplement-the longer the list the better. Take it

daily. B vitamins are important to counter depression along with

other vitamins and minerals.

Try some greens like blue-green algea or spirulina.

St. John's Wart, an herb, is used in Europe for depression. It

takes several weeks to begin to work but is helpful for mild to

moderate depression.

Exercise is good. Walking,running, swimming,Yoga and meditation

are helpful.

I agree whole-heartedly with you Don! Find the

root/cause and the symptom will go away!

 

That is what I love about Dr. Nelson's Quantum

Biofeedback. Find the cause and you'll have your cure.

Allopathic drs treat the symptoms.

 

As my partner puts it in his blogs: It's like driving

a car and the oil light comes on, in allopathy you put

a bandaid over the light and continue driving. Whereas

with Alternative/Holistic, you will stop and add oil.

Hi, I m an old member & read the mails regualarly. i m very depressed from past

2-3 months. it is that now my friends have started suggesting me to visit a gud

doctor. dont knw what to do coz i dont want anyone to knw abt my mental

position.

Dr. Bate has recently developed audio CD's for this for under

$70. You can play them at night while you sleep. He says that it is

similar to doing neuro biofeedback and is highly effective.

Other things to know about depression is that you are

bright, sensitive and spiritually evolved. That makes it very

hard to function in the 3rd dimension, in a world filled with daily

violence, fear, deceit, wars, etc. It is enough to depress anyone.

Add to that the stress and pressure of school, work, family and

life and the expectations placed on all of us.

So:

1)Remove yourself from some of the things that disturb you. TV,

newspapers, some people, etc.

No alcohol, drugs or caffeine.

2)Depression is generally thought to be a chemical imbalance in

the brain. This is partly true.

Eat better foods, organic is best, and detox the body. Get a

vegatable juicer and drink vegetable juices daily. When you have

one, I can send you a formula. Avoid chemicals and preservatives in

food whenever possible.

Soft drinks are bad for you, esp. diet stuff.

Aspertaine, under many names, and then sucalose,

are to be totally avoided. They are chemical poisons and cause

serious depression.

No microwares-they destroy the life force energy of food. Get a good

vitamin/mineral supplement-the longer the list the better. Take it

daily. B vitamins are important to counter depression along with

other vitamins and minerals.

Try some greens like blue-green algea or spirulina.

St. John's Wart, an herb, is used in Europe for depression. It

takes several weeks to begin to work but is helpful for mild to

moderate depression.

Exercise is good. Walking,running, swimming,Yoga and meditation

are helpful.
