Guest guest
For migraines, especially cluster migraines, I use a 50/50 mix of usnea barbata tincture and feverfew tincture. Actually I tincture the two together, but mixing the two works just as well. Fveerfew has been clinically proven to be effective for migaines and can even be taken as a maintenance dose to stave off future migraines. Not that I care much about clinical studies. regards and love christopher scipio homeopath/natural healer
Guest guest
Welcome! That's wonderful! Feverfew has done wonders for me as well. It's very helpful. I've also learned a series of " headache points " (acupressure/acupuncture points) that you can gently massage for even 30 sec and they should clear up just about any headache. I got a headache one night and worked those points. Within literally one minute, the headache was gone completely, and it didn't come back. While it wasn't a migraine, my massage therapy instructor who taught us the points said they should quickly take care of any kind of headache. So when I do feel a migraine coming on, I'll try those points and let y'all know how they work out...unless I missed an archival discussion on the subject! I just wanted to add that in case I ever find myself without feverfew, or, in case the powers that be decide it's too " dangerous " for us as they have recently in the case of ephedra. I hope you find that useful, Brenda. You'll love this group. You may want to look into the natural herb 5 HTP. It helps with migraines and it is also great for a decent nights sleep. It boosts your serotonin levels. Many people also use it for depression, anxiety and to help them lose weight. Dr. Murray ND has a book out on 5 HTP and I believe that it can be ordered used, at a very reasonable price, from Amazon.com I sure hope you start feeling better soon! Guest guest
The only thing that helps my migranes anymore is ice... I just put a big bag full of ice wherever the main pain point is and I can usually either get it to go away completely if i catch it early or at least subside to the point where I can sleep it off. Valerian root is good for sleeping problems...I used it for a while and it seemed to help me get a more restful sleep. It smells nasty though! I've heard Melatonin is good too, but I've never used that. Good luck! Guest guest
I have found one of the main causes of migraines is something wrong in the colon. I used to have lots of headaches until I did discover that and now I avoid it by keeping my elemination in good order. Valerian Root and also White Willow is very good for pain. I cant use the Valerian but the White Willow works great. Even helps me get to sleep when I need a little help. Guest guest
Emily, Studies have just come out stating that a lot of migraines can be due to a low level of magnesium....you can do an internet search yourself and look at this info. They suggest adding a magnesium supplement (in liquid form for better absorbtion) to your daily multi vitamin. I have been suffering from migraines for 19 years and recently tried this, it has been helping. It might be worth a shot for your mom as adding magnesium really has no ill side effects, it's not like a drug or anything. She might want to check with her dr for an okay first, but you can pick up liquid magnesium at any health food store. Hope she feels better soon.. " Mrs. Wheaton " <wheatonranch wrote: Help! Guest guest
Have her get into a very warm tub of water with 2 cups of Epsom Salts in it. Rub some lavender essential oil on her temples and neck, then put ice cubes into an old tube sock and pin it around her neck while in the tub. This well send the blood out of the congested vessels in the head and relieve the pain. Also take magnesium supplement. (Epsom Salts are Magnesium which will be absorbed through the skin.) If there is a structural imbalance there will be other signs like; low back ache, stiff neck, leg pains, breathing difficulty and general stiffness. Go and visit an holistic Osteopath or Chiropractor. Ought to take no more than three treatments to sort out. Should that be too expensive, I do have a complimentary exercise sheet and postural advise I could email on request. For Allergy testing I suggest that you consult a practitioner that does Natural Allergy Therapy using applied kinesiology, as this is non invasive. Hope that helps. Kind Regards, Don Moody. Guest guest
feverfew is an old folk remedy for migrianes, you can grow this plant quite easily in the uk and you eat the leaves raw, i don't know much about the contra-indications but i do know people who freeze the leaves to get them through the winter so they must be quite effective! , " Mrs. Wheaton " <wheatonranch wrote: > > Help! > My mother gets migraines that last from 1 to 2 weeks. Guest guest
I will absolutely second this recommendation. I used to get monthly migraines like clockwork when the hormones went whacky and they completely stopped when I started taking feverfew everyday. It worked wonders. Guest guest
some people get mouth sores from the raw leaves so try a small piece first and see what happens. This plant is easy to grow.It is supposed to be taken for a year before full healing takes place. Peace, Thyme ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
Let me add to this again. I didn't chew the raw leaves, I bought dried capsules and they worked great. They're not very expensive around my area either. Also, I don't know about it taking a year if eating the raw leaves, but I noticed a difference after one month while taking the capsules. One month I had my regular bout of migraines, started taking the capsules shortly after that, and the next month...nothin. It was great!!
