Guest guest
Oh, I know every way to soothe a sun burn, I've had so many myself. Here are my favorites. Aloe is the best. Just smooth it on where you are burnt as often as it starts to feel hot and uncomfortable. My sister prefers it with solarcaine (i'm not even sure what solarcaine is), but I find the results are just as good with or without solarcaine. If no aloe is available, use a lightweight lotion that does not contain mineral oil or petrolium products. The goal is to keep the burn mositurized but petrolium products will trap in heat causing further damage to the skin, such as deeper burning or blistering. Its also very uncomfortable. Another trick to make the burning feeling subside is to soak tea bags in cool water and press them on your skin where its burned. I find this does not last as long as aloe, and it doesn't moisturize the same way so I usually peel when I do it, but its better than nothing. It also leaves your skin very sticky so you need to shower afterwards. Not too hot or cold for the shower, and avoid letting the water spray directly on the burn if you can. When we were little my mother used to put Noxema on our burns. It felt wonderful, but I always blistered when I got a burn when I was little, and I wonder if the Noxema was to blame. It might have petrolium biproducts in it. Also, when you get a sunburn you usually get a fever along with it. Taking an asprin or something will bring down the fever and also help with the swelling and excess heat coming off the skin. Make sure you drink plenty of water in the first 24 hours after becoming burnt, your body will need the extra fluids to speed healing and to replace what has already baked out of your skin. Also, do not go back in the sun until the sun burn is healed. If you must, make sure the sunburn is covered with clothing. Sunscreen does very little if a burns already there. Remember, human beings are nothing more than big hunks of raw meat running around. We should take care not to cook ourselves! Good luck with your sunburn. As a redhead in semi arid Colorado, I feel your pain. Jessica --- I want to adopt <wanttoadoptinaz wrote: > How do you sooth the burn of a sun burn? > > -- > We are certified to foster and adopt! Guest guest
take aloe vera leaves, cut in half length-wise and rub over sunburned areas. Will quickly take the " fire " out of the burn and you will tan without peeling.
Guest guest
How do you sooth the burn of a sun burn? Try rinsing with luke-warm water with baking soda in it. It really works and you can't beat the price! Ien in the Kootenays http://freegreenliving.com

Guest guest
One way is to dab at the burn with a cotton ball soaked in cider vinegar. another is to put two cups of cider vinegar into a tub of warm water and soak for at least 20 minutes and be sure to pour water over the burn if not submerged. Takes away pain and heals. Do not rinse off, let dry on skin. Cider vinegar from a health food store is preferred but any will do. Another way is to use aloe vera gel from the fresh plant or get the gel at a health food store as pure as possible. To use it from the plant: peel off the green outer part and put the gel into a blender. You can add a little cornstarch to it make it less slippery. Refrigerate and use to cover the burns. Do not wash it off. Helps pain and healing very fast. Another remedy is St. John's Wort tea to pour over the burns, when cool of course. If you do this don't get into the sun again till it is washed off. This herb is also likely to make one's skin sensitive to the sun.. Hope this helps ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com. Guest guest
The best remedy I have tried: essential oil of lavender. Truly amazing, will remove the burn and leave the tan. Works better than anything (including Aloe Vera) that I've tried! Apply immediately and again after a few hours. And you smell great! take aloe vera leaves, cut in half length-wise and rub over sunburned areas. Will quickly take the " fire " out of the burn and you will tan without peeling. Guest guest
Hi, Well from living and growing up in Sunny Florida I have tried everything there is for sunburn. I was one of those kids who would not be caught dead with a bottle of sunscreen..lol... but I really wish I could go back and do it all again, Anyway, Depending on the severity of the sunburn, aloe and aloe gels as have already been suggested. If the burn is very bad, you know the kind where you can't raise your arms cause your shoulders are too painful, and clothes are torture, don't even think about a bra! Take 25 to 50 mg of Benedryl ( or generic) TO start, this helps because sunburn is kind of like an allergic reaction to the UVB rays. This will really help with some of the symptoms, Then get a can or 2 of evaporated milk,,, not sweetened condensed,,, evaporated... get in a tub with tepid water, not too hot cause it will hurt, and not too cold as you do not want to get chilled as this is a dangerous thing when sunburned. pour the water over your body to make sure you are good and wet, this also helps to open the pores.. then take the milk and pour all over the exposed skin and the rest will run into the water reaching legs and such. now sit in the tub for a few minutes with the milk, do not rinse yet. It will look funny because the milk will kind of cook on the exposed skin, this is what it is supposed to do... let it get good and dry before using a soft cloth to dip into the tub and then rinse the area with it, don't rub, just saturate... once the crust( you'll know what I mean) is gone run some fresh water and rinse off . After that be sure to use some aloe, either natural or the gels after you dry off.. as to the gels, the blue ones usually have a bit of lidocaine in them which helps numb the skin a bit, I have even seen some spray aloe gels, these are great for when touching is a no-no... Now to the why's, Milk is a natural drawing agent, in achient times women used milk baths to keep their skin soft and beautiful, well the rich ones anyway, even early american women used milk on their faces as a rinse, thats where the " peaches and cream " complexion term comes from. Anyway, Milk helps to draw out some of the poison from the sunburn and start the skin on its healing process. Hope this helps, Michele

Guest guest
The best cure for really bad sunburn - the kind where even looking at your skin makes you want to cry, is, yogurt and brown flour. Lie down. Have someone pour a carton of plain yogurt (unsweetened) on your back/front, then dump handfulls of brown flour over the top. Rest up. Drink plain liquids - best liquid is yogurt swizzled up with plain water and a pinch of salt. This is an old East Indian remedy, and believe you me, it works the best of any other remedy. Also, will not scar, will not blow up and blister, will not peel. But you must soak with the yog and spread thick the flour. Yog cools the under tissue and nourishes the skin. Its natural antibacterial qualities help in the healing. The flour absorbs the heat from the skin. Have a small packet of brown flour handy in the larder as a standby, just in case. Doesn't matter if 'old': but obviously not mouldy! (You're not cooking with it, just 'uncooking' your skin.) Molly
Guest guest
A mixture of vinegar and water can remove the sting. An aloe leaf is excellent
