My brother in law has alot of trouble sleeping

My brother in law has alot of trouble sleeping- he is 36- medium weight (active

exercise) works longs hours during the day at a stressful job. They have two

small children- ( 1 & 3 ) they most nights sleep completely thru the night- but

sometimes they wake up alittle.

 

His problem is he can fall asleep- which he does at say 8 or 9 pm- then goes to

bed- then wakes up at 12 or one and stays awake until 6- He eats well rounded

meals- very low fat- low sodium- low cholesterol - (he has a slight elevated

cholesterol- inherited from parents) He has seen a doctor and he prescribed

Ambien CR- Ambein- and Lunesta and he took them (separately of course) and he

got less sleep.

 

The doctor wants him to go to a sleeping clinic- I was wondering as I read one

email from Ien- that there must be some deficiencies that he has that does not

let him STAY asleep.

 

Can anyone help me??

Some folks have a low K (potassium) serum level. Eating a bunch of grapes

(better than bananas)..or even better...taking some Potass. Bitartrate (Cream of

Tartar) in a glass of hot water...better add some Sodium bicarb. too...or you

may get a sore throat...may do wonders.

 

I find that a cinnamon bagel with fresh fruit and milk helps too.

 

Wit these two..I will drop right off. On the few occasions this does not

work...I will do a relaxation exercise and take a hot bath..and it is " beddy

bye!! "

From what you are saying " He has a high stress job " ,

" works long hours " , I can tell you it is probably

the need for stress reduction. When we get overly

stressed, just like babies get over stimulated or

tired, we can't sleep. I would recommend a stress

reduction program or at the least a mediation program

of 30 minutes per day, or he can try the Sound Sleep

or Deep Relaxation Cd's from Brain Sync.

 

The stress reduction can be done via Biofeedback. It's

what has worked for many years. My clients find they

are sleeping better, the less stressed they become.

Ellen,

 

The most common deficiency that has to do with sleep is magnesium.

But, he sounds like he needs " reprogramming " .

I wonder if he is willing to try Emotional Freedom Technique?

It is literally at your fingertips, and there are no side effects.

-Try a lettuce tea at night,,,it's a natural opiate. Less harmful

I TAKE A HOT BATH IT HELPS GET TO SLEEP.

2 Points come to my mind.

Pre - diabetics do wake up 2am - 3am to void urine.

Check Blood sugar with a home glucometer,

on waking to check this possibility.

 

2nd is Melatonin, sleep inducing hormone.

Melatonin is produced only in darkness.

Try an eye mask like the one given in airplanes.

For few, exposure of small area of skin too inhibit production of melatonin.

They need to cover their body fully to avoid light exposure even to skin.

Upto you to take some clue from this or oppose.
