Guest guest
My 40 year old husband landed on his leg and hurt his knee at karate practice in December. At the time he would not go to the doctor and was in great pain. It has gotten better but not went away. He also has a grinding feeling in his shoulder and bad leg & feet cramps. I am new to the group, but from reading the post I had him start with the vinegar, honey and lemon and it has helped the cramps alot. However the shoulder and leg are still a problem. He came home yesterday and ask me to find him a doctor that would give him a cortisone shot. Well instead I went and got him knox gelatin and told him to try this first as I was certain that cortisone shots were probably not good for him. Can any one please tell me about cortisone shots so that I can let him know........He is very open minded if I have the information. Thanks A Ton!! I love the group and the people here. I have learned so much, it is just wonderful. Cheers to all the people who contribute.\\ Susan in Texas
Guest guest
Hi Susan in Texas! I experienced a crush injury to my knee in a car accident a short time ago and was advised against coritsone shots by my doctor because it is a steroid. He instead gave me Hyalgon shots, once a week for 5 weeks. It simulates the natural fluid in the knee... it has been wonderful! My knee is almost back to normal (still a numb spot). I also take MSM ( 1 TBS in OJ, I worked up to that amount) and it helps with the inflammation and painful joints. I just started the RACV and honey to see if that would continue to help with the progress I am already making. I have a torn rotator cuff and discs bulging against my spine in my neck both recommending sugery (also from the accident), however, I am doing everything natural I can before I opt for surgery. Guest guest
Can you tell me about the shots that the doctor gave you? I know nothing of this. My boy friend has the same kind of nerve pain and joint pain and it is driving him nuts! Guest guest
Cortison shots become ineffective over time. AND over time they can lead to cortison toxicity that can cause both Addisons and Cushings disease. My exes dr told us this when they were giving the ex spinal injections monthly for his compressed disks and shoulder issues. The Dr told him to take MSM, Gluscosamine with Chondroiton, and ARTH herbs. This made a difference in his pain levels and he could move better. The dr. told us his arthritis clients used that combination with excellent results. My partner uses Quantum Biofeedback for pain managment and to treat his Sero Negative Spondilitis. He is now walking without a cane, has more flexibility than he has had in years and has less pain than 1 year ago. Guest guest
-Cortisone softens ligaments making them fragile! Also watch your cholesteral with Glucosamine Chondroitin. Just had my rotator re- attached to the bone,,OUCH!! Try De-compression for thr back injury. better off buying an Inversion Table. They are cheap nowadays, try ebay. Guest guest
Jose writes: Cortisone softens ligaments making them fragile! Correct. Can cause damage to the ligaments and tendons. Most people after a cortisone shot feel 'good' then they go do too much, and result can be weaken and torn ligaments and tendons. IF a person *must* get those shots, then they must take it easy for at least 24hrs! BTW, orthopods if they have to go in are wary of areas that have been treated with cortisone shots. AND, also, cortisone shots have to given very very carecfully, preferably via ultrasound, so that the needle delivering the med is correctly directed to the right place. All too often the needle is just jabbed in, goes to the wrong place, and the patient not only is in AGONY but, the cortisone damages the surrounding tissue!
