Guest guest
My husband has two or three really thick toenails. They are up to about a quarter of an inch thick. Has anyone else had this or do you know someone who was able to treat this in a " natural " way? Someone else told him to put thyme on the toenails every day, but it was hard to do and not get stain on things. He takes HGH internally every day, and this seems to help if he's on it regularly, but it doesn't make it go away. Thanks, everyone, for being here! Guest guest
I don't consider this the most natural treatment, but I don't think it's harmful either. Have him try rubbing a thin layer of Vicks Vaporub (or it's non-brand-name equivalent as I hate companies - like Proctor and Gamble - who test on animals making money) onto his nails every morning and night. It will take a while to see a difference, but it's been said to help fight nail fungus, which this might be. If he notices some difference, have him keep it up for a year as I understand it takes that long to have a fully new, healthy nail. My toenails on my littler toes were looking a bit thickened and yellow, though I didn't think anything was wrong. But I tried this out of curiousity, and my nails look amazingly better now. Guest guest
When I took my mother into our home, she had the ugliest toenails, thick and yellow... I could not even cut them. My brother told me to try one of my husband's files from his tool box... Anyway, I read somewhere that bathing the toes (feet) with white vinegar, helps kill the fungus... It took months of daily vinegar foot baths, but finally, all the fungus was gone. I also changed her diet to only freshly prepared vegetables and whole grains. Maybe that helps, Ingrid --- imlivingonpurpose <imlivingonpurpose wrote: > My husband has two or three really thick toenails. > They are up to about > a quarter of an inch thick. Guest guest
Hi Renae. Your description sounds like what I have. A few years ago, my doctor at that time told me it's a fungus infection & there's not much you can do for it. This was a while back, so maybe there's something for it now as I think I saw a commercial for treatment of this. It doesn't bother me any ... other than I won't wear open-toed shoes. I'm wondering if it runs in families. My mother has it as well, but this could just be a coincidence. Guest guest
I agree. White vinegar, with consistent use, does kill toenail fungus. Good for you, Ingrid. Diet, diet, diet!! Guest guest
I recently did a web search for natural cures for toenail fungus. The majority of the recommendations say to use vinegar in a spray bottle, at least twice a day, soaking the effected nails thoroughally. Most say that its important to be consistant and not stop until the nail is completely regrown, which may be several weeks. I also read some articles recommending Oil of Oregano capsules, (which I believe is concentrated oregano in olive oil) applied directly to the nails. Some of these articles mentioned that the oil of oregano could cause skin irritation, so I haven't tried that yet. I started the twice daily vinegar spray treatments a couple of days ago. Still too early to see if it's really working, but the nails seem to look better already. > > imlivingonpurpose <imlivingonpurpose > > Sunday, March 11, 2007 6:32:23 AM > Toenails > > My husband has two or three really thick toenails. Guest guest
Thank you Cathleen; you made me feel so good. My family somehow goes along with my diet ideas, but they think I am a bit fanatic. I buy absolutely no processed foods, no sweets, no dairy products and no meat; once in a while we have fresh fish--sardines too-- and range-fed eggs. Our hair and nails look healthy; so, I believe that we get enough calcium. We do take some supplements, though. I had many health problems, but since I changed my diet--over 20 years ago--I really feel better. My children and my husband are gradually agreeing with me and he even has less sinus problems now. Anyway, I believe a healthy diet is probably the most important cure for everything, but I understand that not everybody's needs are the same. Ingrid --- cathleensp <cathleen wrote: > I agree.
