Guest guest
Yes, Jessika -- enabling is also a hard habit to break (to use the words from an old Chicago song ... it was Chicago, wasn't it?) I know from experience how insidious it can be. I think both men and women can easily become enablers because we so want to help. It's very hard to back up, put your hands up and say, " Hey, I think this is your deal and you need to handle it. " We also have to come to terms with the fact that we feel empowered when we " think " we're " helping. " Good you're going to Al-Anon. Stick with it. You'll eventually go " Aahhhh! OK, I think I see. " And alway, always question yourself " Am I enabling " because enabling will be, for a while, your first knee-jerk reaction. Best of luck. What you'll learn at Al-Anon will be of great support to you for the rest of your life. Dede
