This came to me from another site, thought that it would help

here also.

Groats { grits mixed with oats } is a easy to fix, cheap, healthy

breakfast.

I use to use simvastatin and genfibrozol, both anti-cholesterol

drugs. I dropped both of these and still lowered my cholesterol

into the normal range in a month's time simply by eating groats

every morning and cutting back a bit on meats and dairy foods.

I cooked them as follows:

1. Bring two cups of water to boil.

2. Mix 1/2 cup each of grits and oats.

3. Pour mix into boiling water and stir slowly/continuously.

4. Boil for about one minute, then reduce heat to a minimum.

5. Continue stirring until thickened [ five to ten minutes

depending on circumstances]

Normally, i'll put one teaspoon of garlic powder and two teaspoons

of onion powder in with the groats before pouring them into the

boiling water.

I have used a 1/2 cup of water and 1 1/2 cups of apple juice

instead of the two cups of water and dropped the garlic and

onion.

You can also use cinnamon and brown sugar, cream and sugar, or

whatever else floats your boat as the possible sweetening/spicing

of groats is endless ( I've used dark syrup, resteraunt condiment

packs of various seasonings/sauces and even ramien noodle packet

seasoning.)

Even if you are using a miniature alcohol stove for quick brew ups

on the trail, a " hobo stove " , electric hot plate, or regular

gas/electric range you can cook groats in a matter of minutes. If

you can boil water you can make groats.

Overall, groats are cheap, easy to make, fast, can be

seasoned/flavored millions of ways and will scrub the bad

cholesterol out of your system.
