Guest guest
The only thing I can think of is to stop putting on the news if he watches or hears it on TV. I also thought that he may be experiencing precognition or clairvoyance, perhaps in his dreams and this may be a real warning. I hope that there will be people who can advise you on this troubling matter, that perhaps have solved such a problem. One way to relax him is to drink a cup of chamomile tea before it gets dark or if he will take it, chamomile in tincture form. Guest guest
EFT will work wonders in this case. If you don't know how to do it, there are many practitioners on this list and at the EFT site www.emofree.com there is a listing of practitioners. Look at the list and find someone that offers a free session over the phone. There are many that do this. Also, a flower essence can help a Great deal. I make my own so can not comment on which Bach remedy can help, though I do know his Rescue Remedy will. There probably is a specific one that might be better suited, and I bet someone on this list will be able to tell you which one that is. The nice thing about Bach's over all the other essences is that you can usually buy Bach in your local health food store, whereas you have to order from any other company and wait for it to arrive. Guest guest
You have the beginnings of OCD with your son. There are ways to train him out of it but, you need to start now. Get on line and start researching it. Daphne , " handerson4388 " <handerson4388 wrote: > > my son has extreme anxiety about being safein his home.also about > safety regarding me and Dad in cars... Guest guest
this boy is reacting to something real or imagined that may have happened in his life. If there was an incident he needs to work through that with therapy. If it is imagined and he has a slight version of ocd then again he needs professional consultant. It is likely that anxiety aids will not suffice his dilemma. If you want to try something benign you can certainly try some gaba but I suspect you'll eventually need to get professional help. medusa - " handerson4388 " <handerson4388 Sunday, February 11, 2007 8:30 PM My son has exteme anxiety about safety > my son has extreme anxiety about being safein his home.also about > safety regarding me and Dad in cars... Guest guest
I have a son with OCD (age 18). Sounds like your son might have OCD. To read more about it, try the OCD Foundation website. Also this site has info on OCD and anxiety (plus info for parents, schools...) and some good suggestions for how to talk to your child about it: http://www.worrywisekids.org/ There's some good children's books on OCD too. As to something besides prescribed medication to try for it, we used inositol powder for quite a while and it worked well for my son. Others have had success with it. Others haven't had success. And some (very few that I know of, just hearing from other parents) children seemed hyped up on it (or something) so parents discontinued use. An article about inositol and OCD, including dosage (which for a child you wouldn't want to go too high (18 grams for adults). Though we were at around 13-14 grams or so (more on bad days) for my son when he was 12 and he's a very skinny person. His OCD was really severe in the beginning though. http://www.homestead.com/westsuffolkpsych/Inositol_and_OCD.html I haven't looked at the site yet but some parents (in an OCD group I'm in) have talked about a nativeremedy (nativeremedies maybe) website and a product called Pure Calm or Mind Soothe.... Hmmm...I *do* need to look at that too, LOL! Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) are the recommended therapies for OCD but it can be difficult to find someone to treat kids (or someone who actually knows what they are doing!). Sorry if I rambled a bit! Feel free to email me personally if any questions about OCD since my son has it! They do work and given time will help a lot' Here is a site with all of them and what each one is used for. It is better than putting a child on psyche meds. I would give it a good try. _http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedies.htm_ (http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/remedies.htm) Peace, Thyme

Eft, bach remedies etc-----great advice. i would also get some classes in some easy meditation techniques so he can learn to do deep breathing and learn to relax-i agree he is reacting to an experience----- even if it was a movie or over hearing a conversation bout an event. If you let this slip---he may form compulsive dis-orders,, anxiety, depression and even anti social behavior, headaches, etc so seek out every thing you can and remain calm,, just be gentle and reassuring but not over indulgent or he may get confused with the attention he gets as a result of his disorder and subconiously rely on his behavior to get attention... however don't ignore it either-find a mid way balance, all shall be well. my son had a similar thing, shortly after moving to the country a neighbour told my 8 yr old about the yeti living in the forest-from that day my son wouldn't sleep till 10 or 11 each night-screamed if the light was off or door closed and was spooked by any noise-it went on for years- i had to be tolerant and understanding and search out all sort of ways to reassure him, eventually he grew out of it but it was years. I have heard of eft having wonderous results and bach flowers are great for shock, if the problem is from an experience or fear they will help emensely --good luck
Guest guest
He is hyperfocusing on his fears and that is making it worse.Rescue Remedy or Calms Forte may also help him stay calm. However medicating him isn't going to remove his fears. EFT and Biofeedback or hypnotherapy might work. Somwhere he got the brain cell imprint about safety in addition to the cartoon. Although cartoons are an excellent way to brain wash children and adults. Maybe stranger danger programs at school..etc somewhow it's all come together and he is hyperfocusing on it. Have you taken him through the home and shown him what you have done to help him feel safe? Had him help draw up an evacuation map? Had him help lock up at night before he goes to bed? Is he having nightmares? What he is doing needs some serious help as it can manifest into something more serious. Guest guest
Hi Anderson ! You have not mentioned about your son's age. However, you have faith in homoeopathy, you can try. I am sanguine, your son has a genetic problem. The problem is a negative thinker and has negative attitude for which he is behaving like this. However, you give homoeo medicine Natrum Mur - 1000c- 3 drops in every Monday and Thrusday morning in empty stomach and Zincum Met - 200c - 3 drops daily at 7 p.m. You will find a remarkale change. When his night problem is answered you can stop Zincum Met. However you can continue Natrum Mur continuously for six months in the same manner as stated above. Should there be any confusion, you can contact me on subratadashomoeo Dr. Subrata Das -- In , " handerson4388 " <handerson4388 wrote: > > my son has extreme anxiety about being safein his home.also about > safety regarding me and Dad in cars... Guest guest
I read that its common for children around 9=13 to have anxiety about safety issues and safety of the family... accidents, death etc, I was like that when i was about 9-13. If its severe, it sounds like it might be OCD. I have a daughter with OCD and her psychiatrist told me that OCD is caused by anxiety and the underlying cause is often depression. The usual treatment for OCD is anti depressive meds. When i heard that, I started taking St johns wort, because I had problems with obsessions,,, and the obsession went away. It was such a relief, Take your child to someone who can help you,,, while he/she is young, because theproblem is that, along with the obsessive behaviour is their thought patterns can become " set " ....much like a needle sticking on a record...hope things go ok for you, No need to miss a message. Guest guest
Yes, Bach Flowers will help a lot. And the links given are very good. But if you are interested in learning the Flowers in the form of an online course (lessons), here is a link: http://floweressencesintro.onlinecourse.com/ It is a FREE, non-credit course. Join and see for yourself whether it is useful. Swamy , RSchl44964 wrote: > > I think the Bach Flower remedies would really help. Guest guest
Dear Heather, your post caught my eye...are you a Christian?...My children went through this also. This is my suggestion...kneel down and pray with your son at bedtime. Encourage him to tell Jesus to take care of each concern one by one, until he can't think of any more. Let him use his own words or to say, amen, or thank you Jesus after each one. Then, pray for the " ones he forgets " and ask God for his strongest and mightiest Angels to watch over your house and car, and the whole town, and everyone he loves. Thank Jesus for hearing and answering his prayers. If he fears monsters, go to the front door, open it and command all monsters to leave the house right now in the Name of Jesus. Do it with authority. And say Jesus tells them to never come back. Then close the door. You can also do this in his room. A child believes what the parents believe, and you can assure him of your love and safety because of God's love and protection. Make this a little nightly ritual, and see what happens. INJ Athena P. S. Maybe your son has watched a violent program, like Miami CSI. If so, assure him that the blood is " ketchup " and makeup and that the actor is alive, but pretending to be dead. Tell them the actors sometimes have to crack up. You can go online and see " behind the scenes " of how that program is made on the official website. Make up little plays together so he can understand the concept of tv and movies. I don't know how old he is, but this may help. Everything on tv is worrisome now...Iraq, Lost, crime shows, reality shows, cop shows, bounty hunter, mob shows, etc. Talk about how good always overcomes evil in the end. And that is the message Kids of All Ages need to hear
Guest guest
Heather, also about safety in cars...insist everyone belt up, say a short prayer before driving, and always say thank you to God for his protection. Get a symbol like angel wings for your mirror (for when we forget to pray.) And have you and your son place you hand on the hood of the car and pray that it will be blessed and protected. Tell him that once is enough. if you act happy and upbeat and confident, he will be, too. I used to drive around with Benny Hinn the Master's Healing Touch instrumental music in the car, and my girls said it felt like we were driving in heaven The sky always looked more magnificent, too. Guest guest
The two most effective things you can do for your son is one give him Bach Flowers for fear " Mimulus " this can be obtained from your local health shop. For more info on Bach Flowers you can go to: http://www.bowentherapy.homestead.com/bachflowers.html Or EFT as already suggested. You can apply this to your son yourself if you choose. There also are instructions and a free one page download of the technique on: http://www.emotionalfreedom.homestead.com These two things together will get rid of any fear that he may have. I have used both for various fears of my own, as was much relieved and surprised how quickly and effectively they work.
