Guest guest
I know people can get better without the use of harmful antibiotics. I just need ideas; willing to try. I have a cold that is in my chest and a raw throat. I don't want to take any cough suppressants because I know I need to cough to get the junk out of my lungs. Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks! Machelle

There are times when antibiotics are the right way to go. You don't want to mess with pneumonia. The earlier mentioned honey/lemon/cayenne combo in hot water is our family's workhorse. Apple Cider Vinegar can be used instead of lemon. Frequent small doses of Echinacea can help with inflammation. Frequent larger than usual doses of a good PRO-biotic can act like an antibiotic. Remember there is a link between the lungs and the large intestine. Slippery Elm and Cat's Claw (Uncaria Tomentosa) are both herbs that act on the intestinal tract and on the lungs. Make a steam tent out of a large bowl or pan of hot water and a towel over your head. Add to the water: oil of eucalyptus,and/or sage, or chamomile, or anything else that calls to you. Look for herbs that are " demulcent " or " emollient " , meaning they are soothing to the mucus membranes, and " Expectorant " , so they help you get rid of excess plegm. There are a gazillion of them! Some that come to mind readily: Fenugreek, peppermint, mullein, oregano. Last but not least: TAP on it! The handy quick start guide to EFT is now in the group files. Hope you're better soon. Ien in the Kootenays http://freegreenliving.com
Guest guest
Hi Machelle, My all time favorite for coughs is black seed oil (from black cumin seeds). One tsp three times a day for a day or two has gotten rid of even month long bronchitis (took me a month to locate a source when I moved). In Canada I ordered from www.barakablackseed.com I think. It's cheap and it works. Don't waste time with capsules or powder, use the pure oil. Hope you can find some. Another good relief, especially at night time is making mullein tea. Buy the herb loose in a health food store and just add hot water. I used to collect it in the summer but since doing a thorough cleanse and balancing my bowel bacteria, I have not been sick in two years. Garlic tea numerous times throughout the day may also help. I think the key is to use two to three times the amount that is written on the bottle in order to make anything work. For example: Kyolic garlic pills, Reishi mushroom, Cordyceps mushroom, etc. just multiply by three or take the recommended amounts every two hours until you are well. Homeopathy works well for coughs too but there are so many remedies, I can't really suggest one. If you have someone knowlegable in your health food store, ask them if no one here has suggestions. They might have a mixed remedy. Weleda makes a good one that helped my daughter when we didn't have the black seed oil in the house. Hot baths, several times a day may help. Hope you get well soon! Guest guest
Lots of Cranberry Juice! As close to 100% as you can find... An eight ounce glass of orange juice spiked with lemon juice and heated on the stove. Drink the heated orange juice. I really don't know if this really does help, but it always seemed to help me. Lots of good green tea with unheated, unfiltered local honey. The local honey is full of the pollens which cause many allergies and " colds " which we hear going " down into the chest. " Green tea is full of antioxidents, and the honey never hurts...besides it just tastes good! Hope some of this helps.
