Guest guest
Have been waking-up with a pounding headache for a few days now. Although, I am subject to migraines, I do believe this is sinus related. Feeling pressure near eye/nose area and the pounding seems to shift from side-to-side. No coughing, sneezing or nasal drip...do have some congestion. Any suggestions for relief are appreciated. Lisa

To rid the blockage-also separately use a nasal douche with salt water- I know it sounds grosse but i use to get sinus very badly and a doc put me onto the nasal douche and i protested strongly--there was no way i was going to snort salt water- i thought i'd drown, after trying it-i was amazed at how easy it was and it moved the mucus and allowed me to expectorate ( if that is the right word) it out. Ask your pharmacist to show you how to do it but it is easy pezzy once you have the nac. Get yourself an old fashioned plastic sause bottle from the supermarket, the type that has a pointed lid, punch a hole in the base about the diameter of a pen, place finger over hole to prevent water escaping, put a teaspoon or little more of salt in the bottle , fill with luke warm water. Hold head side ways over bath or basin, tilt top of head, slightly lower , place top of bottle in top nasal cavity, slowly release finger from base to allow water to run out freely, water should run in top nasal passage and out of bottom nasal passage. move head slowly till you get the water running in a compfortable way. It may not run freely straight away if you are badly blocked but it will soon shift the blockage--i know what you are thinking--i must be kidding---i had sinus for years and tried every thing on the market, i felt miserable all the time especially in the mornings till lunch time---this was the only thing that shifted it quickly and gave me some relief -that was natural. Once the blockage is gone , the headache should subside. If you have an infected sinus passage then that will need garlic , rosehips etc The other things helped on a different level but please give this a try-i didn't want to but was so glad i did. Guest guest
I would try hot packs over the sinus area, and drink hot tea with lots of Tabasco or something. Guest guest
Elderflower tincture will drain the sinuses, also horse radish or cayenne. Echinacea, golden seal and rosehips together will help too. , Wear a differenr height of heel than you usually use ------- hi to lo or vice versa. This really works. Also do the position of your head down to the floor with straight legs, butt in air, hands on floor. this is very good too. And of course steam that is breathed in thru mouth as well as nose. Eucalyptus essential oil inhaled also helps. Peace, Thyme
Guest guest
One thing that usually gets rid of my headaches, sinus or otherwise, is aromatherapy. Try lavendar oil. Guest guest
Lisa, Have you tried the old lemon/hot water/honey/cayenne pepper trick? Cayenne is a great way to remove blockages. Some people swear by neti pots: swirling the sinuses with salt water. There are also reflex zones and acupressure points that may help: Massage the pads of your toes or even your fingers. Find the tiny indent in the cheekbone just below the pupil of the eye if you stare straight ahead. Move down the bone just below there and press upwards. (I am not very good at explaining this in words) Visit http://acuxo.com for more information on acupressure. It is a great site. Last but not least, try tapping it! http://emofree.com/ Ien in the Kootenays http://freegreenliving.com Ien in the Kootenays http://freegreenliving.com

While using it will probably not instantly cure your headache, it helps clear sinus problems without side effects. I use it at the first hint of sinus problems. Guest guest
I am passing on someone's experience, you may try I have not been active on this list for quite some time. However, a while back I posted a questionwhere I was trying to identify these seeds a massage therapist from India uses. His English always suddenly got much worse when I would ask him what they were. No one here knew what they might be here but some people sent me individual e-mails saying they wanted to know. Now I know, it is a plant called Ajwan or Ajwain in India. I am not aware of any commonname in English. Botanical name is Trachyspermum amoni and is a member of the Apiaceae (parsley family). One day I pocketed a few seeds and started growing them. The plant looks just like Fennel, flowers like Fennel, does not taste like Fennel, tastes a bit like Oregano. Seeds have a strong somewhat hot taste. Plant experts in my area had no idea what it was. Then I took it to a new local restaurant for Indian food and they recognized it very quickly. This is also an obscure, little known, spice in their cooking and a classic treatment for upset stomach in India. What this massage therapist would do is heat a few table spoons of these seeds just a bit, then put the seeds in a cloth and have the person inhale the vapor. This would be repeated several times. Sinuses would then slowly clear and stay that way for two to three days easily. Of course he charged $40 US for doing this while I can now buy 200 grams of these seeds at a local Indian store for $2 US. Could mail order them probably for even less. The vapor has quite a bite to it so it is a bit hard to inhale. But with sinus congestion it can be well worth the temporary discomfort. The first time I had this treatment I sneezed constantly the next day, following treatments I did not. Guest guest
from wiki " Headache is rarely a symptom of sinusitis and a " sinus headache " is often a misdiagnosis of a migraine. Acute sinusitis can cause pressure within the sinus cavities of the head, but this always has associated pain to palpation of the sinus area and purulent greenish discharge from the nose. The use of the term sinus headache therefore is often misleading and results in underdiagnosis of migraine. Recent studies indicate that the majority of " sinus headaches " are migraine headache. (Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg. 2005 Oct;133(4):489-96 id = PMID 16213917) (Arch Intern Med. 2004 Sep 13;164(16):1769-72 id = PMID 15364670) This confusion occurs in part because migraine involves activation of the trigeminal nerve in the brain which sends signals to the sinus region through three different nerves - so patients will often feel their migraines in their " sinuses. " Since the trigeminal nerve controls the sinus and nose region of the head, a migraine can also cause mucus build up and a " runny nose " , which further confuses diagnoses. " go to see doctor, if it doesn't help, maybe you want to try acupuncture, or try the herb called Tall Gastrodia Tuber http://www.herbasin.com/database/tianma.htm Wang Qiang http://www.tcmdepot.com , " leesali11561 " <leesali wrote: > > Have been waking-up with a pounding headache for a few days now. > Although, I am subject to migraines, I do believe this is sinus > related. Guest guest
Thank-you for the response. I am very prone to migraines...not sure why I thought this was sinus related...only because of the pressure near eye area & temples. Thank goodness, I am now headache free...it was a rough few days. In desperation, I filled-out a symptom guide on a homeopathic site which guided me towards Sulphur. I only took two dosages and finally woke- up headache-free. Guest guest
That's the one I was trying to remember when we spoke! My old O.D. would recommend that one for colds and bronchitis also! Along with Pasilla(?)cough drops...she called them killer cough drops, you get them in the specialty or hispanic foods section of the grocery store in a green and red box. They're wonderful! Guest guest
Do steam inhaling with plain water for minimum 15 minutes every night. then splash cold water on your face to regain the blood circulation. Do this continuously for about six months. You will be permanently alright. --- leesali11561 <leesali wrote: > Have been waking-up with a pounding headache for a > few days now. > Although, I am subject to migraines, I do believe > this is sinus > related. Guest guest
hello, the English name for Ajwain is Carom seed and it is one of the spices used in Indian cooking. It is very beneficial for digestive problems and also for chronic cold and cough..pariculary dry cough. It can be used by grinding into a fine powder and having a small quantity, say half a teaspoon full, with a glass of water. Ofcourse it is quite strong in taste and flavour. pari , " subrata das " <subratadashomoeo wrote: > > Hi there !, > > For sinus headache, you take homoeo medicine named Kali Bichrom - 200c - 3 > drops in the morning and evening.
