Guest guest
Can anyone give me advice? I've moved my family to an all-natural diet, implementing organics, natural remedies, etc. wherever I can, but it's so expensive! We're not wealthy people and I'm afraid from some of the comments my husband has made over the past several months, that if I don't start finding better-priced alternatives, he's going to pull the plug on all my holistic efforts! I certainly can't imagine after learning all that I have studied over the past year or so, going back to what I used to feed my family. Any suggestions, tricks, advice, or DEALS??? Thanks & God bless you!
Guest guest
Bulk is what we use. We're feeding 6 kids on any given day. We've gone for bulk on any staples. Using the 2 for 1 sales, coupons etc. Growing a garden when we have the space. 5 gallon buckets make great patio planters when you don't have garden space. Becoming a distributor for those supplements so you get a discount. Using bulk on supplement items that you can put in a capsule yourself. Muscle testing supplements that are less expensive and switching to those. Jenny Kernan --- Julie <keans6 wrote: > Can anyone give me advice? Guest guest
Hi, Julie -- do you have a farmers market in your area? That's usually a great place for better prices on whole foods. Also, see if you can locate an organic bulk-buying club in your area (assuming you're in the states?). They cost nothing to join, there's no minimum to buy, and they often have " splits " available, where one person doesn't want a whole case of something, so will split it with other people. HUGE reduction in cost that way. If you're in the NW of the US, there's Mountain People's warehouse (it's been a while since I lived there, so it may not still be the same). There's also Azure foods, which is most national to the US (and I think it's the one we belonged to when we were in the NE). Try googling " food buying club, " and see what you get. Good luck! Guest guest
Hi I know it is not an instant answer but what about growing your own fruit, veg and herbs. That way you know exactly how everything has been grown and you will be able to make a lot of your own remedies. Growing veg etc is great fun, good exercise and can involve the whole family. Guest guest
Hi, Try more vegetarian meals and meat substitutes. I am a vegetarian and I can buy a 20 pound bag of veggies for the price of a piece of meat. Join a coop to get better prices. If you do not have one, then start one. I get a large bag of food one time/week for $20. If you help out, it's $10. You can find many health foods and products discounted if you know where to look. Ex. In the next town, there is a discount food place that gets truckloads of cans and boxes of food. Most stuff is 33% lower except mixed in are health foods, ethnic foods and specialty items. These do not less well to their customers, so they are much cheaper. Almond butter, marked $8.99 is only $2.99 there. Cereals are 5 for $6. with some health food brands mixed in there. The ones that they cannot sell are in a box for $.50 such as Familia which costs $3.99. I bought so many that they raised the price to $.89. Try juicing and making many things if the store bought prices are too high. Juicers are available at many retail stores like Goodwill for $7.-$15. Bread and cakes are available at outlet stores and even Big Lots has some. Vitamin/minerals /supplements may be available mail order and in discount malls although here you need to check for quality. I save lots of money never going to doctors and not buying meds at drug stores. I do not believe in paying for health insurance so I take care of myself and my family and save hundreds of dollars. Plant a garden. We used 2 planting boxes (4x8 feet) outside and then grew inside in pots in winter or in a small, inexpensive homemade greenhouse. Go to the library and read back issues of Mother Earth News. Be smart and be creative and this will work out for you. And you and your family will be much healthier. Guest guest
Aloha... There are natural remedies out there that do not have to cost an arm, a leg, your first born child or your marriage. It doesnt necessarily have to be organic to be healthy. Organics has become a mainstream market that has become as greedy as the rest, using a label to overprice its product like a Gucchi handbag. The only option to bypass this one is to grow your own. As to the health of your family, the basics of nutrition & exercise is always a base on which to build. There is a great book on the market called " Prescriptions for Nutritional Healing " that lists a variety of ailments and foods that can be used to cure them. In addition, it provides one with a base of knowledge that can be implemented into daily regimines and grocery bills. Keep in mind that everyone's body system is different. What works for you may not work for your husband or kids. These foods and natural herbs provide the basic nutrients a healthy body needs. Most of them you already have in you spice cabinet and can be used to make healthy teas and so on. If you wish to try purchasing herbs in bulk, perhaps you will consider " Frontier Herbs " based out of Florida. I know this isn't much, but I hope it helps.... Guest guest
this is how we've done it also... we are slowly taking over the yard with vege plots but its a bit hard with the drought... in the mean time, well thought out staples, real (not processed) herbal supplements and a bit of a creative use for items like beans, sweet potato and the like... once you make the shift your food bill will be halved hamish -- -------------------------------- The Keeper of the Big Blue Cable of Connectivity TKBBCC - DNRC I:274300250 Y:hamish_dy M:hamish WL:hamish-dy
