Guest guest
I had one and my menstral cycle was light and slowed after. From what I gather - since it scrapes away the lining of the uterus, until it has rebuilt itself well you wont menstrate or at least will menstarte very light. There are several things that come to my mind that could cause a lack of menstruation afterwards. First off, the D & C and the events predeceding it could have caused some hormonal imbalance, thus shutting down your cycle. Or, and this would be worse, your uterine lining could have gotten hurt in the D & C process, causing something that is called " Ashermans syndrome " which means that your lining got mechanically damaged and is no longer able to build up. If you wanted to know wheter you have hormonal imbalances you should go to an Obgyn and get some blood drawn to measure the following hormones: prolactine, FSH, LH, estradiol. To see if your uterine lining is scarred, you should probably do an ultrasound. This should give you aclearer picture of what is going on here. I hope this helps any...if you do not feel comfortable to discuss these matters in public, feel free to email me offline,ok? Guest guest
HHMMM. That is curious. May depend on how old you are. I am 45 and had one a little over 2 years ago for heavy bleeding and clotting during periods. I also had polyps. I worried at first about having it done but, it was the best thing ever. My periods returned normally in a month and, the clotting and heavy bleeding stopped to just a normal flow. It took over 2 years for a minimal of clotting to come back. That has since ceased as I no longer use tampax. This has also stopped any cramping. The worst thing a woman can do is stick something into the vagina, especially if it is a bleached white tampon. What has your doctor said about it? Daphne , " chaise624 " <chaise624 wrote: > > Does anyone know what could have happened? This one has me stumped. > Any sensible replies welcome. Guest guest
Three women I know had the same things occur. I thought perhaps age was a factor since all were around 50. As far as I know none have followed up with their doctors, they are just happy to be done with periods. Guest guest
Hello, I had to have a d & c after an abnormal pap smear. My stupid doctor said " you have to have it as soon as possible " , so off I went to get it. After all was said and done, it turned out to be an ooooopps!. Nothing was wrong with me, it was all a mistake. That was 14 years ago. A few years ago, I went to work for the largest pathology lab in Nashville. Mailing pap smear results to doctors offices was my job, among other things. While I worked there, I learned to read pap smears from the lab techs. I also learned how little care and time is taken in viewing the slides. And also that a huge percentage of false positives and false negatives are produced. After I realized that pap smears are utterly irrelevant tests, I stopped getting them and haven't had one in years. I will only have one again if I have a problem. However, after my d & c, I do not recall noticing any difference in flow, or length of cycle. You need an examination from another gyn. Good Luck to you, Regards, Janet T.
