Welcome to the MindFreedom section on electroshock. The MindFreedom

board of directors has a position against the medical use of electroshock.

The main focus of the MindFreedom " Right to Remember " campaign has

been on a worst case scenario: the use of involuntary electroshock

against the expressed wishes of the subject.

 

All three Americans below who were receiving forced electroshock are

now *free* of forced electroshock, partly because people like you

spoke out! This is an example of how a public campaign can appeal to

the court of public opinion, and stop forced electroshock in its tracks.

Stop Forced Electroshock -- THE RIGHT TO REMEMBER

 

The three people featured above are three of the many Americans who

have experienced involuntary electroshock within the past year.

Electroshock against the expressed wishes of the client is a reality

in the USA, today. Thousands of people internationally have united to

resist the forced electroshock of Paul, Adam and Kathleen.

Paul Henri Thomas and Adam Szyszko both received forced electroshock

-- against their expressed wishes -- at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center in

New York State. Both have been fighting their forced electroshock in

court.

 

Forced electroshock has spread its roots state-wide, deep into the New

York Office of Mental Health. Every state in the USA has loopholes

allowing forced electroshock over the stated objection of the subject.

Forced electroshock happens internationally, and is a growing problem

in developing nations.

 

Resistance can work. Concerted action by hundreds of people helped

stop the forced electroshock of Kathleen Garett in St. Louis.

It may be hard to believe that a human rights activist would be held

for nearly two years and given forced electroshock, here in the USA.

 

But this is the reality.

 

Paul is a 49-year-old American citizen who moved here from Haiti. In

Haiti Paul was one of the student leaders in human rights protests in

the early 1980's.

 

More recently Paul has been active in the psychiatric survivors

movement. He frequently attended meetings of the Long Island

Consumer/Survivor/Ex-patient Coalition.

 

Paul's long history as a human rights activist is serving him well

during this crisis. He has responded to the massive amount of forced

electroshock and forced psychiatric drugging with dignity and purpose.

However, as Paul says, " no one is invincible. "

 

Your civil resistance activities on behalf of Paul are much

appreciated by Paul, Support Coalition International and the thousands

of people who are supporting Paul.
