Tips for Keeping Your Computer Running and Your Files

Intact

BETTER PROTECTION

1. Use free Mozilla Foxfire and not Internet

Explorer.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

2. Don’t open spam. Delete it without opening it.

COPY YOUR FILES AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH

3. Make a CD copy of your files at least once a

month. It costs a few dimes and will save the grief

of losing important papers.

CLEAN

3. Run free Adaware to clean out spyware.

4. Clean your computer regularly.

Click All Programs-accessories-disk clean up-Disc C

(or one shown)-O.K.

SYSTEM RESTORE

5. Take advantage of the system-restore on your

computer. This will set the computer back to an

earlier time when it was working. (without deleting

new files)

Click All Programs-accessories-system tools-system

restore-restore my computer to an earlier time. Set a

restore point here from time to time and before adding

a new program. Then you can go back to it later if

you have problems.

6. If worse come to worse, get the installation

discs from the manufacturer and reinstall the

operating system by following the step by step

instructions. You will lose your files but the

computer will work like new.

You will have to reinstall your printer and any other

software, so make a list of what you need to reinstall

before you get started.
