CONVENTIONAL WISDOM / Death of Common Sense

CONVENTIONAL WISDOM

 

Today, conventional wisdom that has mass acceptance is usually

contrived: somebody paid for it. Examples:

 

* Pharmaceuticals are the only way to restore health

* Vaccination brings immunity

* With your financial assistance the cure for cancer is just

around the corner

* Menopause is a disease condition

* When a child is sick, he needs immediate antibiotics

* When a child has a fever he needs Tylenol

* Hospitals are always safe and clean.

* Whatever country you live in yours has the best surgeons in the

world.

* Milk is a good source of calcium.

* You never outgrow your need for milk.

* Heart drugs improve the heart.

* Back and neck pain are the only reasons for spinal adjustment.

* No child can get into school without being vaccinated.

* All drugs are thoroughly tested before they go on the market.

* Pregnancy is always a serious medical condition

* Infancy is a serious medical condition and needs lots of medication

* Chemotherapy and radiation are effective cures for cancer

* When your child is diagnosed with an ear infection, antibiotics

should be given immediately 'just in case'

* Estrogen drugs prevent osteoporosis after menopause.

* Pediatricians are the most highly trained of all medical

specialists.

* The purpose of the health care industry is health.

* HIV is the cause of AIDS.

* AZT is the cure.

* Without vaccines, infectious diseases will return

* Fluoride in the city water protects your teeth

* Flu shots prevent the flu.

* Vaccines are thoroughly tested before being placed on the

Mandated Schedule.

* Doctors are certain that the benefits of vaccines far outweigh

any possible risks.

* Chronic pain is a natural consequence of aging.

* Soy is your healthiest source of protein.

* Insulin shots cure diabetes.

* After they have taken out your gall bladder you can eat anything

you want

* Allergy medicine will cure allergies.

* An airliner can be flown with professional precision by a group

of crazed amateurs into a 100+ storey building and can cause that

building to collapse on its own footprint even though it was hit well

above half its height. Twice.

 

This is a list of illusions, which have cost billions to conjure up.

Did you ever wonder why most people in this world generally accept

most of the above statements?

 

 

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Mr. Common Sense.

 

Mr. Sense had been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how

old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic

red tape.

 

He will be remembered as having cultivated such value lessons as

knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the

worm and that life isn't always fair. Common Sense lived by simple,

sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable

parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge).

 

His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well intentioned but

overbearing regulations were set in place. - Reports of a six-year-old

boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens

suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher

fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

 

Mr. Sense declined even further when schools were required to get

parental consent to administer aspirin to a student; but, could not

inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have

an abortion.

 

Finally, Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became

businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims.

 

Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize

that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, she spilled a bit in her lap,

and was awarded a huge settlement.

 

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust,

his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason.

 

He is survived by two stepbrothers; My Rights and Ima Winner.

 

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.
